"developmental psychologists have found that children are very aware of the importance placed on the social category of gender and highly motivated to discover what is "for boys" and what is "for girls." Socialization isn't just imposed by others; a child actively self-socializes. Once a child realizes (at about 2 to 3 years of age) on which side of the great gender divide he or she belongs, the well-known dynamics of norms, in-group preference, and out-group prejudice kick-in."

Please consider how you're limiting girls and women, and boys and men.

As to limiting anyone, I don't see anything, anywhere limiting anyone. Any girl, or any boy, can have whatever interest, and ultimately any occupation, they like.

I'm coming to the viewpoint that the OP is being deliberately provocative, as I simply cannot see how any 31 year old woman in the UK could hold the views that have been given.

Then I don't think I am the one living in shelter.

:rotfl::rotfl: I have never heard serial killing referred to as a capability before!

'Serial killing' and 'capabilities' were mentioned in 2 different paragraphs.

But you read/see/conclude whatever you want to.

Hey op, I have a female friend. She is a fully-qualified gas engineer. She has 27 different certificate and can work on any type of residential, commercial and marine gas installation.

She also teaches and assesses new gas engineers.

Bet she would be less than impressed by your attitude towards women in certain trades.

Really? You're the only person in this thread holding your view of what jobs women should be doing. Anyway, I'm even more convinced that you've decided to troll on this topic so I'm out.

I haven't read the book but reading the Wiki on it, it seems to rebut your point of view, not support it.

    Which jobs are they?

Anyway, I have booked myself on a 1 day DIY course in June and am already looking forward to it. If I find it really enjoyable I will look into longer courses.

I'm a welder, worked on building sites/private homes all over the place.

Used to get a lot of stick, and some people who were outright sexist (a few blokes have even asked for me not to be allowed to work because I'm a woman!) But generally people are very nice, although they do all tend to ask why I do the job/how I got into it etc.

A few times early on I was tempted to give it up, because every day was a struggle against !!!!!! trying to make my life miserable, but those few sad folk aside, I love my job, and I'm very very glad I didn't give it up :)

(Although it still !!!!es me off when I get on site with a boy ten years younger than me - often just a trainee! And people automatically defer to him/ask him questions, even after he specifically says I'm in charge, and has to ask me the answer to every question...)
