No, most people accept the rules. You were lucky that you got someone who was prepared to go above what they have to do. It could have been a very different one and you would have had a very different outcome.
I think you are in for a shock dealing with benefits and realise that you are nothing to them at all, just another number and statistics and all the complaining in the world will most only be seen as one of those 'can't accept that the world doesn't evolve around them'.
Saying that, I do agree that it is nice that they were prepared to show some flexibility to accomodate you. Just don't think you got your way because you were right and that you were able to prove them wrong. You just got a nice person on the phone.0 -

I disagree. I got my way because what I complained about was reasonable and proved that what they said was not reasonable.
It wasn't just another person on the phone who decided this - it was a manager who, obviously, looked at the situation. If they thought they were still right then why would they accommodate?
Reason they did was because I complained and they knew they're actions would not stand up to scrutiny. Plain as.
Having had previous experience with benefits I'm aware of their attitude. Your right there. But if you take its never going to change. If things are wrong, people should complain more.0 -
There is a certain irony of someone that has continuously abused public finances talking about "doing things fairly".0

I agree, something akin to a modern day 'Oliver'?
Mind you he is helping to make up the deficiency of others who don't claim but could:
"George Osborne may be slashing the benefits budget to save cash, but part of the problem with our welfare system is the amount that goes unclaimed each year. £12.7bn of means-tested benefits and £5bn of tax credits went unclaimed" - The Guardian.0 -
Well I hope you are right and that your complaining each time you are not happy with how you are treated by government agency will see you getting your way. You would certainly be an exception!0

He would certainly be 1 in a million.
I'm not happy about lots of things that the DWP have or have not done. All the screaming, shouting and complaining won't change a thing if what they did or didn't do was entirely legal.
We have the Tribunal Service which will hear appeals. to decide if what the DWP do or don't do is legally correct.
It is not unusual for a claimant to be given the knock back with a claim and the claimant to leave it as it stands. I like many thousands just aren't interested in 'proving' who is right or wrong. There are bigger battles to be fought especially if you are disabled - just managing to cope with life is just one of them.0 -
;68366724]BAD BAD attitude that some of you have got.
And yes we have won BTW. Official complaint went in thursday night, by 9am friday morning we had a manager on the phone. Hes apologised about the way we've treated, the claim has not been cancelled, and a convenient appoitment has now been sorted our. They even offered a home visit due to the inconvenience - turned that down, not needed, and didnt want to take that away from someone who really needs it.
So, the truth of the story seems to be, they will try and get away with it, because they know that a lot of people, like some of you, will bend over and take and they'll get away with it.
Some of us are not willing to put with that.
They are supposed to abide by the rules, as much as the claimant is.
There is absolutely no reason for any claimant to do anything other than follow the rules. They do not have to put up with endless crap.
And, I say this as someone that worked for the DWP - so I do understand the system.
Generally, if something is unreasonable you can go (politely!) further up the 'food chain', of staff, and speak to a manager, who are generally more sensible, and have less targets they have to meet.
If that doesn't work whack in a formal complaint - they all have to be logged, and it generally gets things moving!
Glad it got sorted.
High Court judges have ordered another judicial review into the chaos around disability benefits and processes, due to be carried out later this year:

Where do you get the idea that my wife has "abused public finances" then?
I'm assuming this is just YOUR opinion then because I can assure you shes done nothing illegal, fraudulent, underhanded, or otherwise.0 -

Totally agree. If what they did was right then you've no chance but if its wrong why shouldnt you complain?
Like you said there's an appeals process.
Also, Im not on about proving whos right or wrong for the sake of it. But if there is something being done wrongly and its affecting my family then, if I think its wrong, I reserve my right to complain.0
