;68353201]Disagree. You don't have to bend over and take it.
There are rules in place which are governed. Remember, ultimately this is a government department as such is employed by the taxpayers/voters of this country. They are not a law unto themselves and should never be allowed to do - they exist to serve the people in this country.
Something they often forget.
Your choice, your fight.
And using that argument will not get you anywhere. You might not like how they treat you, but you must remember it is YOU that is asking for financial help from them.
There is an old saying; beware of the battles that you engage in, pick only the ones that you know that you will win.0 -
I think their argument would be that if your wife had been called to attend that same appointment to come and collect a cheque of £2,000, but it is then or the cheque is gone, you together would most likely managed to find a way to get there. Be it you taking the day off, calling in sick, begging a mum to look after your son.
The reality is that going to that appointment is the same, except that the money will be distributed over a longer time and you see it as an entitlement rather than a win.
This is why they don't bend backwards to accommodate people.0 -
as others have said if you want the benefit you have to jump through the hoops
I agree with you and others about jumping through hoops.
I see and talk with people who have trouble with benefits, sanctions and appointments.
They are upset and angry, some even talk of doing silly things.
So yes there are rules they should follow but as most people know its not that easy.0 -
BAD BAD attitude that some of you have got.
And yes we have won BTW. Official complaint went in thursday night, by 9am friday morning we had a manager on the phone. Hes apologised about the way we've treated, the claim has not been cancelled, and a convenient appoitment has now been sorted our. They even offered a home visit due to the inconvenience - turned that down, not needed, and didnt want to take that away from someone who really needs it.
So, the truth of the story seems to be, they will try and get away with it, because they know that a lot of people, like some of you, will bend over and take and they'll get away with it.
Some of us are not willing to put with that.0 -
These contractors are encouraged to be as awkward as possible by the Govt. It is their brief to get people off benefits any way they can.
Op, don't forget to claim back travel costs (go by bus if you can).Never Knowingly Understood.

Not quite the same. Not sure why you all think of yourselves as peasants who've got to do what the masters say to be honest. We're all taxpayers and voters who pay these people.
They have a duty to do things fairly, properly and within the rules.0 -
Not all of us peasants are claiming government money though :beer:Its not that we have more patience as we grow older, its just that we're too tired to care about all the pointless drama0

Its amazing how quiet it gets in here when theres nothing to be abused about. It seems since I've been proven right no one wants to comment.
Where are you all? Especially the ones saying I was wrong and had to jump through hoops because I should.0 -
I'll happily jump in, and say
1) Well done - great to hear a fair outcome.
2) Reassuring that someone at Capita actually saw sense (and apologised!)Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).0 -
Yes but sadly only when I officially complained. Why can't these people just use a bit of sense sometimes?
I fear it is because most people will shut up and not complain so they get away it. Demonstrated completely by some of the people who replied to this thread who seem to think you should have do exactly as they say.
Of course, when you complain, they know you're not a 'normal' pushover and they get a bit scared then knowing they've crossed the line.0
