Completely insulting.....best you show them how insulting a mere fifty quid is by insisting you are only prepared to apply for part time work ........very soon you won't even need to bother with the indignity of signing on except for your NI stamp towards an equally insulting state pension too so forego that and they won't be bothering you at all (of course they won't pay you either but as it's such an insult it's probably for the best)

Wow at some of these replies! Obviously I do need the money as I don't have a regular income anymore.

Just seems unfair that the only lifestyle choice they allow you to look for part time work is children. I'm part of a team hoping to go professional in 2016 and I can't / won't let the others down.

50 quid a week is a joke compared to all the tax I've paid, I thought it was paid at 90% your old wage for first few weeks and gradually went down to the bare minimum. Just because someone was on w high income doesn't mean anything once they loose it.

Guess I'll just have to pay them lip service, all I was trying to be is honest. The woman there knows she can do nothing to help me as they can't get professionals jobs.

I can't believe this is serious.

On the off chance it is, do you really think the system should cater for someones hobby?!

Do you not have any provisions of your own?

90% of your pay? :rotfl: The bank of the state would never work like that. You're claiming JSA from the government, not maternity pay from your employers!

You are thinking of SSP (statutory maternity pay)...

I hear you but the system caters for thousands of men and women who are economically inactive and could be if they tried or were made to work. They are fed, housed ,clothed and looked after by the state and allowed to breed without constraint so why cant a guy who has worked and paid taxes all his life have a piece of the action?

What OP needs to do is get on the old depression and anxiety malarky..
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

Its not a hobie its a lifestyle and I'm hoping to go professional soon.

Seeing as there is a job shortage I can't see what benefit they have to push me into any old work. Would rather get something that I will stick with long term.

    It's a hobby.

Surely as a high rate tax payer and someone who only needed to work part time, you have your own financial provisions though?

You can have your lifestyle choice if you want just don't expect other peoples taxes and NI to pay for it, sorry the fact that you have paid the higher rate of tax is neither here nor there, most of us can say that (46 years of NI and tax contributions inc 15 year at higher rate of tax and 5 years of enhanced NI in the 90s in my case) so why do you think that entitles you to special treatment.

I'm guessing you are in your fifties as the sort of unemployment benefit you are talking about disappeared in the late 70s or early eighties.

"The woman" as you call her isn't there to find you a job-she's there to ensure you aren't a benefit fraudster who lies and commits fraud because they think their hobby is more important than supporting themselves when they were stupid enough not to save from their high paying job to allow themselves the "lifestyle choices" they think they are entitled to. The rules and laws are the same for everyone. Her job is to make sure you are meeting the commitment you made to job seek in accordance with the job seeker's agreement you signed.

Lie to her by all means but if a fraud conviction would impact on your life, reputation or future lifestyle choices then it might not be the brightest thing to do. A criminal conviction is always a possibility when you commit benefit fraud.

Seems like a bit of a risk for a "mere" fifty quid a week though but only you can decide if the risk is worth it or not.

Ironically they can ask you to do a ZHC, so it wouldn't matter whether your part or full time.
