  • wishus been thinking a lot about what you said about coming down to a healthy BMI to become a gold member and going to meetings for free. I think it is a very nice Motivation and very MSE too. I might try that and get myself out of this self sabotaging rut. Thanks wishus.

Mothernerd - you're right when you say about people just accepting incorrect figures because 'they must be right' - good on you for fighting it!

Wishus cardio tennis sounds great fun, now if only I could muster the hand eye coordination to be able to hit the ball!

The Only Girl - quite a lot of people have mentioned being adopted by my Mum because she's so awesome :) you're welcome to join our family :D

Fmess - your Mum and the laundry detergent made me smile :) I'm the same, I smile every time I sit in my car now!

Today was a spend day but managed to do the weekly shop for £19.75 which sounds great but I'm going to be running my store cupboard down to last as long as possible on what little money I've got left. Some of the money I spent on holiday was for a birthday present for my Dad, so I've taken that out of the presents fund and have scraped together all the change I had left so I've put an extra £20 or so into my grocery account. If I can manage it I'll try to do next week's shop for under £20 too so meticulous and strict menu planning required! If I can do that, it means instead of six weeks being covered by next month's food budget it's only five, making it easier to shift my budgeting period forward. With a bit of wiggle room!

I've scavenged some empty one pint milk bottles from my mother as I've gotten fed up with DH unpredictable milk consumption. One week I buy four pints, he runs out mid week, doesn't tell me then complains there's no milk. So I buy six pints - then half of it goes off and gets tipped away. Well, no more! I've bought six pints this week and will freeze half of it in the pint bottles, so with any luck we'll never run out or have to throw it all away again :)

Righty ho, off I go to get in the remainder of the laundry and put it all away!

Have a good day Turtles :)

Afternoon turtles! MessyMare, great idea with the milk bottles, just maybe be careful when unfreezing them, so the glass doesn't crack :)
Well, I am shattered! My "chicken challenge" yielded two boxes of chicken pie mix, one box of chicken soup, three boxes of cajun chicken gumbo and an ice cube tray full of chicken stock! Each box is a meal for me and OH, so I'm very happy with that! I also made twelve (TWELVE!) pasties for six evening meals (curried potato and onion, and swede/carrot). And an apple crumble(!) but that was to use up a glut of apples that we have. Shouldn't need to cook for at least a fortnight, if not longer as we still have some food left from the last batch cook.
I'm going back to bed now for a while!!! :D
Not left the house today so another NSD chalked up as well.
Hope everyone has had a good day so far :)

Wow that sounds so yummy! It's made me really hungry!

Today has been a SFD. Breakfast and lunch from the cupboards and tea at the in laws :) I've already done 15,000 steps and still have upstairs to hoover so hopefully might get to 16,000+ today :)

Getting really impatient with my debt at the moment as next month I will have to put money aside for a hen do and spa day (both of which I'm really excited about) but that kind of depletes the money that I usually overpay on my debt. I might have a tiny bit of tutoring but maybe not as the exams start this week. However, soon it'll be exam marking time and I'll be super busy with that so hopefully I won't be spending anything but earning extra :)

I had an email on Friday to say my dd for my energy supplier would increase by 50% because I was in debt to them. I called them and pointed out that I had only been with them since September so my bills had only coveted the expensive half of the year, energy wise and they said they knew but didn't like customers to be in debt and would I like to pay the full amount now instead! I very firmly explained that if my dd went up by so much as 1p before the anniversary of my signing up with them, I would leave them. The girl was quite shocked but thanks to your issues with energy suppliers mothernerd , I was not going to let them have any of my money. Luckily, the girl backed down and confirmed my dd could stay at its present amount. How cheeky of them, grrrr.

Hey everyone! Great to hear from you all, seem to be good things happening for many turtles. Good to hear from you mothernerd - keep fighting the good fight - maybe DS3 needs to shout at the energy companies too?

I'm still at 12 SFDs as Oslo prep has meant spends for the last three days, and will tomorrow too! Got a letter on Saturday about the mortgage payments going back to what they were, BUT that they were topping it up out of an overpayment from me, instead of reversing the error they made  was on hold yesterday ages to be told they wouldn't transfer me to the relevant person as lines were too busy. Will do battle tomorrow, but that's also the day the erroneous payment will come out, grrr.

Today I bought the world's smallest travel kettle but it doesn't work, so need to take that back to Argos tomorrow too. The seal was broken so I suspect it's a return they've put back on sale. Inspired by Bob's wombling thread, I've been keeping an eye out in supermarket car parks for unclaimed points receipts, but either people are less careless/litter-buggish or more tight up here in Yorkshire as there's been not a sausage :D I did pay for a bottle of contact lens solution out of coppers I found in a bag at home though, which felt almost like wombling (good job the self-service tills were quiet. :rotfl:

AND tomorrow I should finally get my car back after nearly seven weeks of it being repaired after someone drove into it. Need to return courtesy car, get a lift to the garage, bring car home and then cycle to work in a small window in the afternoon so could be interesting!

Chicken all round this weekend! Academia I'm with you in the chicken challenge! Slow cooked mine yesterday for 2xchicken dinners, 2xchicken salad wraps, a litre of stock, and a vat of curry on the go now that should do me 6 meals at least when I'm back home and poor :D

Time to make some lists and start packing for Oslo, getting quite excited!:D If anyone's been I'm all ears for tips. x

So... chicken went okay. It was lovely and moist, yum yum. We then went out for a walk around our local botanical gardens.
Unfortunately, whilst we were out, some ants got past the cling film and on to the leftover chicken.
Gutted as we had plans to make some curry and then soup.
    :(

Today, I am making lasagne... one thing gives me four portions.
    :D

We went through our cupboards to see what we had and ended up making jelly for pudding.
    :rotfl:

Reading through and I can't believe how much some of you can get out of one chicken. I think we need to try harder.

Spendy day yesterday as we followed up the trip to the gardens with a tour of asdamas. Every aisle to try and gain steps.
    :o

Asdamas appears to be a lot cheaper than the shops near us (morries and tescimos) so I think we might start travelling a bit further in order to save food budget money.
    :undecided

Fmess, I tend to get fed up of my debt about half way through the month as I am waiting to make a payment and I just keep staring at the stupid total wishing it was away.
However, the bonus of doing it the long way is that we learn financial independence from credit cards and debt. Which makes it worth the wait, I guess.

    Hugs to everyone.

Savvy Shopper! I've been Money Tipped!
Synonymous - Glad to give you some ideas but not glad the wombling is slow in Yorkshire. Perhaps you just haven't found what the best free things are locally yet. It must change regionally. I think London is good for roadkill as there are so many kids roaming around throwing pennies 5ps away for some reason. If you go where the teens do the hunting is better for that. Equally I find if you can spot the litter heavy areas around your supermarket or retail park then there can be gold in them thar rubbish heaps.
Keep a weather eye out :)

Fmess -good on you for being so assertive with the energy company. I hate the way they all work. Back in September or October having given readings for months we were told suddenly we had a £300 deficit on our gas. It was their fault for using estimates. Which even they admitted. It was very frustrating and we are still trying to clear it because it came right as the winter heating went on. Our DD is currently £105 but we've had a couple of months were our bill was that so no arrears cleared. Now its at £234 because our bill went down last month as we've turned the heating off. But it will still take probably at least 2 more months to clear it. Things just seem to take so long to fix I find once they go wrong. Like being in debt.

Well done to all those doing rubber chicken. It's great how much one chicken can do.
