PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING: Hello Forumites! In order to help keep the Forum a useful, safe and friendly place for our users, discussions around non-MoneySaving matters are not permitted per the Forum rules. While we understand that mentioning house prices may sometimes be relevant to a user's specific MoneySaving situation, we ask that you please avoid veering into broad, general debates about the market, the economy and politics, as these can unfortunately lead to abusive or hateful behaviour. Threads that are found to have derailed into wider discussions may be removed. Users who repeatedly disregard this may have their Forum account banned. Classic 50/60s boxes. The visible ends of the concrete floors and the brick dividers between properties are also a giveaway.
Those look like Maisonettes (flats with a street door and two storeys internally).0 -

Possibly by people who can't afford or don't want to wait until any compulsory purchase is completed. People who can't face the thought of living on a derelict site with boarded up properties occupied by drunks, druggies and squatters.
Bought by people who think they will turn a profit on the compulsory purchase price.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. If you want lots of supermarkets, avoid ilford. All it has is a sainsburys in the town centre, and a small lidl. There's a bigger one further down the high road by the police station, but just those two. If you want a tesco, asda or morrisons you will have to travel.
Grays has a much better choice of supermarkets, and they are nearer to each other.0 -
oh and I considered Ilford for its Lidl!
and Grays has no Lidl, it has only the much inferior Aldi0
