Cut my own hair!

Wow - Lots of people out there.
When I had long wavy hair - with layers, I just went for it. I just took a good 2 inches off everything. First time I did it, I hand just drunk a bottle of wine and was more than a bit tipsy. When you're hair is long, there is always the option of getting someone else to 'fix' what you've done - assuming you don't go too short. Never did need to fall back on that. I found wavy hair with layers was very forgiving. Now with short hair, I just aimed to take an inch or so off everything. Basically cut everywhere I felt was too long - I'll repeat it again in 4 weeks.
Like Ilona, I used to have a mirror facing a mirror on a door. This makes it far easier - I don't have that set up where I'm living now. Need to get that sorted for next month.
I've just bought myself a pair of professional hair cutting scissors. I didn't have my dressmaking scissors and to be honest, I don't think I'd find it too easy to cut the back of my hair with such a big scissors. My figuring is, I don't see myself going back to a hair salon unless I was looking for a complete change. Might as well make it as easy on myself as possible. Who knows, OH might let me do his in time0 -
I have shortish layered hair and cut my own hair. Have done for years - the prices are too high.
I used to do the two mirror method and use thinning scissors to put the layers in to begin with. I did buy hairdressing thinning scissors which I've had a while now.
I now use the pony tail method. It's much easier to put the layers in - all I do it put my hair into sections and make small pony tails, then cut!
It takes 15 minutes usually less and doesn't look too bad. The bottom of my hair probably takes the most time to try and get it level.0 -
I cut my own hair. But then I have always had hair that is below my bra strap.
I use to get my husband or mum to trim the ends. I do very occasionally go and have it cut properly.
My hair has loads of layers. I have seen this done this way on a few different sites.
I pull my hair in to a pony tail on the front of my head and cut it. Then I keep doing smaller and smaller pony tails until I run of hair LOL!!!!
No one has said it looks crap. So it must be ok.
I too hate the whole thing of booking and going to the salon and talking carp. I do have one place I can get my hair cut for £14 and you can just walk in.
When my hair was at its longest and I went to a expensive hairdressers as a model I had to stand up for them to cut my hair

I used to do this also and it always worked well but just after Christmas I had it cut into an extremely short pixie crop and don't feel confident enough to do it. Also I like having a hour or so at the hairdressers to myself after not being able to afford it for so many years.1 debt v's 100 days chapter 34: T3sco bank CC £250/£525.24 47.59%

I've only just started cutting and colouring my hair. I just trim the fringe and ends. And although the end product was very nice got sick of the process. My hair is long and getting highlights can be tedious. I've gone darker, my hair is dark brown just now, 4 quid from superdrug.0

Just started.I've got proper scissors to thin hair,as I have VERY thick hair. The first attempt was ok,though a bit shorter than what I'd meant to do.I got someone to cut the hair at the nape of my neck the other day which was too long then did some serious thinning.Hoping to grow it a bit longer now.It looks really nice.I'm thrilled.
It'll save me some money that I can use for something else.My salary has gone down by about a third recently,so I need to cut out all avoidable spends as much as possible.I did have to buy the thinning scirrors though,a bit pricey, but a good investment.0 -
Inspired by this thread I tried to give myself a trim, I found the following video helpful
Easy hair cutting
I found it really easy. I didn't need to take much off, but is a lot tidier looking now :beer::staradmin: June NSD's 2/19:staradmin: Sealed Pot #460 :staradmin: £/day £185 saved :staradmin: W.S.C 2015 #45 :staradmin: F.P. 2/24 months :staradmin:0 -

Hairdressers used them on my mop of very thick hair about 50% of the time and I was thinking about having my own pair eventually, just not sure what is a reasonable price for a reasonable product. Don't want trashy ones but wouldn't need the qualilty that a pro hairdresser would want if they were using them daily for years, IYSWIM.
Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Greyqueen I would be happy to tell you where I bought them and for how much, but I don't live in the UK,so not much help.I bought them 'here' IYSWIM.
Sorry.
Why not post on the Beauty/Health forum about where to get a good pair at a reasonable price?0
