  • I had been with Talktalk for over 2 years, I had phone calls and then line rental so decided last year to get their Broadband Free in the package as I was already using them for Broadband. They are good until anything goes wrong. We had a bad storm on 19th June and I have had one heck of a job getting help from talk talk. I have spoken to just about everyone in their overseas call centre and twice they promised to send me a modem, one of the operators then said if I called into Carphone Warehouse I could pick up a modem. Well my daughter was in town so I phoned her, she called into the shop and surprise, surprise it would take them 10 days to order one and would cost me £40 and then I would have to try to get this money reimbursed from Talktalk.
Don't touch them with a bargepole. It has taken me 6 weeks to get back on via my own PC I have now signed up with BT, after swapping back to their line rental. I had to use the local library to pick up my emails until I got back online.
I am now asking them for compensation and goodwill credits before I will pay my last bill from them. I was advised to cancel my direct debit with them as they just keep taking the money from your account.
I tried phoning two of the numbers given on this site, but to no avail, I wrote to their office in London and got a letter back from another town but with the London address on the letter head. It is now over 2 weeks since I wrote back to that person saying I would pay my last bill once I have had compensation - not heard anything.
They threatened my daughter (after she had a dispute with them over her Broadband connection) with Court and she rung their solicitors saying she had kept all her paperwork and couldn't wait for her day in court - since then nothing.

Explain why TalkTalk should provide a new modem if your old one was damaged by a storm?

You've lost me??? Are you saying that a storm damaged your modem or are you having problems getting the TalkTalk Modem for the Broadband Service??? If your having problems getting the modem maybe TalkTalk Boy could assist you?
  • I think all the cheap broadand providers are much of a muchness. I joined TT when their free BB offer was fairly new, had lots of problems to begin with (intermittant connection for the first 6 weeks or so) after numerous calls to indians with poor grasp of english I eventually got tranferred to their technical support team in Scotland, the bloke there was fab, got it all sorted out in no time, no probs since (10 months ago)

I used to be with Pipex but found my friend (who lived nearer the exchange) was getting twice the speed for £15 that I was getting for £24! I asked for a review of my service and definitely got the "New Customer Only" treatment - basically I was ignored.

When we moved, I thought I would give TT a go. Once I started the disconnection process from Pipex they started to take an interest in my custom but it was too late.

Setup with TT was quick, service is consistent at 2MB (out in the sticks) and I'm connected 24/7. I work from home most days so the free calls are great. Cannot get their free broadband so I'm paying £30 per month. I was paying £35 with the BT/Pipex combo without free calls.

All in all, things have been good with TalkTalk...

... but I'll be reviewing things in 6 months when the TT contract is coming up to its term...

Talktalk offer an excellent "product" with an UTTERLY DISMAL customer service. I have been CONTINUALLY lied to since I went with them and then they also attempted to extort money from me after I moved house (they couldnt move my line even though BT say they could if they wanted to!!). I asked how they could charge me when I didnt live there and they said it was a computer issue with a fault on the line and that if I didnt pay they would give me a bad credit rating!! To top things off, I was promised a £20 good will gesture, this was later denied and refused!!!! Dont get me wrong, there are people there who are helpful...... but they are not in the majority!!!!! Read all the reviews and make your mind up, peanuts and monkeys coem to mind!!!
  • Moneyluva, are you now connected in your new home ?

Overall i would say talktalk is a good ISP, although some people do seem to have issues with the customer service side of things (but who doesnt when it comes to ISP's) as Charles Dunstone said, "they are trying to be the best of a bad bunch". The majority of cusomers do not have a problem with talktalk, along with having the largest number of unbundled exchanges in the UK and the price, if all your after is a basic package you really cant grumble.

Unfortunaetly the MSE staff on here will not allow me to take non sensitive details from people on here asking for assistance.

Do you have names/dates you spoke to talktalk ? I'd reccomend speaking to the call centres again ans checking if they have any notes saying you were promised a good will gesture. If they say no, explain to them the problems youve had and im sure youll be able to have this applied (depending on how long the history and inconvienience was)

However there are other forums which i help on that the staff have been able to verify who i am and dont mind me offering assistance such as https://www.talktalkhelp.com https://www.thnkbroadband.com and https://www.the-scream.net
  • I dont care what excuses TT offer, to be honest (something TT are certainly not!!!) I've heard them all before..... Bottom line: THERE IS NO EXCUSE THAT CAN JUSTIFY LYING TO YOUR CUSTOMERS, HOPEFULLY WHEN ENOUGH PEOPLE MOVE ON (GOOD LUCK TRYING!!) TT WILL REALISE THAT THEY HAVE SERIOUS PROBLEMS AND RECTIFY THEM!!!!!
