When I was a child (in the 60's/ 70's) my mum never bought washing up liquid and I only ever remember her using washing powder. I'm 48 now and don't seem to have had any side effects!DEBT FREE BY 60Starting Debt 21st August 2019 = £11,024

Before washing up liquid, people often used soda crystals. I find they work pretty well, but do require good rinsing or you'll have a powdery residue left when everything dries. Harmless enough (soda crystals are a food additive in small amounts anyway), but still unwanted.
Plain household soap like white windsor works too, but again lots of rinsing. That was the major benefit of washing up liquids, they rinse away easily.0 -
On hols in a caravan recently I used a little tea tree shampoo - worked absolutely fine. Soap is soap imo!
Skint but happy with my lovely family

I'd use it as a good excuse not to bother washing up and put it off until tomorrow0
