I lived in Barking and Dagenham from birth up untill 3 years ago and moved to suffolk. There's a reason why there are lots of houses for sale as everyone wants to leave. Surrounding areas ain't much better. Take it this way, you couldn't pay me to move back there even if you bought me a beautiful house. I have family still there and still travel back but even though I miss my family I'd never move back0

There speaketh a man who's never visited Luton, Grimsby, Hull or Morecambe."You did not pull yourself up by your bootstraps. You were lucky enough to come of age at a time when housing was cheap, welfare was generous, and inflation was high enough to wipe out any debts you acquired. I’m pleased for you, but please stop being so unbearably smug about it."0 -
Guys I need your help.
I'm planning my holiday but I can't pick between Aleppo, Damascus or Donetsk.
Which one has the cheapest supermarket?0 -
What about Brentwood, Billericay or Wickford? All much nicer than Romford and cheaper too. Rayleigh is also much nicer than all your 3.0

Rayleigh is very village
does it have schools for A-levels? Does it have places for children to learn languages? To play? I don't know, I have never been, but it looks very village on the map, plus I don't like that it has a serious supermarket (Asda) at the outskirts so I will have to travel alot to get groceries
Goodness me, a village........without a supermarket within a couple of yards from your front door!! Heaven forbid!!!
Better not even contemplate that.
I should stick to Basildon!!;):rotfl:A cunning plan, Baldrick? Whatever it was, it's got to be better than pretending to be mad; after all, who'd notice another mad person around here?.......Edmund Blackadder.0 -

I have been told that Dagenham is awful, not sure. Is it a south asian ghetto too? Not sure. Rainham would also be an option that I haven't yet explored
Rayleigh has a high street with loads of shops.0 -
Can we get any more info, OP?
I take it your work is in Laindon? How are you planning to get there - drive or public transport?
Are you looking for somewhere to rent or to buy? What kind/size of property? What other amenities will you be looking for, other than the Gym you already mentioned? Are you looking to live in a town, or in the country?
Most large towns these days have at least 2-3 supermarkets, though you might want to check Aldi/Lidl (if that's still important to you) as these are scarcer in some parts of the country.
If you're looking for nicer areas, then: Rainham, Brentwood, Rayleigh, maybe even Chelmsford.0 -
I will drive to Laindon every day
I am looking to buy something 2-3 beds flat or house
I would like to have close by, supermarket, gym, pub, school. I DONT NECESSARILY MEAN close by foot, it can be by car, BUT, I DONT WANT to have trouble finding parking OR pay for parking each time I go there.
I want it also as investment, ie. the price to rise up. Wouldn't I have the best investment with Romford's crossrail?
plus, I want to be within an hour in central london0 -
will the kids be able to attend extracurriculum lessons, like foreign languages or musical instruments? does Wickford has all that? I doubt. I expect Romford to have more options.0
-
also, how will the kids go to gym and school? under 18 they can't drive, so I will have to drive them to and back?0
