Old Style 8th August 2007

Options
Hi, this is the Daily Thread for 8th August 2007. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything OS and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an OS natter. The more the merrier!

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem, we’re a laid back bunch here so you won’t hear any complaints. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Hi everyone,

Jackie O, Good luck for Thursday, like everyone else I’ll be thinking of you. If sheer determination and single-mindedness could cure you, you wouldn’t need an op.
Anniebooklover, I’m sorry I missed your birthday….Belated birthday wishes and I hope that you had a good day.

I can’t thank you all enough for the lovely posts on the board and the PMs I had at the weekend….I was completely overwhelmed by your kindness and your messages meant so much to me and gave me more comfort than you’ll ever know. I hope to get the time to reply to you all later today. It’s been a hard week because Sandra was the one person I would normally talk to when I was upset about something, but she isn’t there any more. I’m going to miss her terribly. Her funeral was yesterday morning….it all still felt a bit unreal, and it was so very sad, but at the same time so good to see that she was loved and will be missed by so many people. It’s been a dreadful shock for everyone, but at least it was quick for her and she isn't in pain any more.

That’s really been my week so far so I haven’t much else to report. The house is a complete tip, the garden's been neglected and the kids and the cat have just about been fed and watered. I can hardly call myself a model Old Styler at the moment. :o Come to think of it I never could, but at least this week I've had an excuse!

HariboJunkie (my sister for those who don’t know her) and her brood arrived last night, and thankfully the sun was shining so we could have dinner in the garden (I don’t have a big enough table in the house for us all to sit down together). It was great to see her and catch up. They’re here until Saturday so that should cheer me up a bit.

I’m hoping to get back to board guiding in the next day or two….yes I can hear you all groan! :D I’m going to be boring you all to death with linking and merging as usual!

Thank you all again for all your support, it really helped me get through the last few days.

Have a good day,

Pink

Hello Pink_Winged :hello: And everyone to follow :)

Since I'm still up I might as well join in. Been very busy with work and haven't done anything worthy of mention in here, so I haven't visited this thread a lot.

So sorry about your loss PW :( It sounds like you will miss Sandra very much. It's terrible losing someone we love and care about. It always seems so unfair. :( And don't worry about the house needing some extra attention - it will be sorted out when you feel more like it.

I haven't seen Haribo around the arms either, in the past few weeks - but I'm glad she's fine.

I'm getting slowly sorted out for my holidays in September, which means I have to clear all the work and make sure there's no problems while I'm away. Some dim colleagues aren't helping but that's the way it is.

Definitely need to do some more clearing out - old boxes etc, and jars that I no longer need and stuff like that. Been doing some cooking following that old book I found in a charity shop. In fact, I found two more, one from 1936 and one from 1922! I'm really pleased I found these books.

Other than this, have a good day everyone. And you PW... I know it's early days yet, but I hope you find comfort soon.
Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.

    Hi Q,

    Thank you. xxx

Haribo has had a mad summer.....she was in France for the first couple of weeks, then home for about ten days, then off to our brother and his family for a week and now down here for a week! Don't listen to her the next time she moans and tells you she has a boring life! :D I'll mention that you were asking after her and tell her to get her herself back here pronto.

    Morning All

At work again. Despite staying late yesterday by three hours, I've got to stay late again today for another three hours. My meeting was cancelled half an hour after it was due to start and has been put back to today.

I was so tired yesterday, I fell asleep infront of the tv before falling into bed at 8.30pm. Still really tired now and got a really long week.

Received a letter from head office yesterday confirming my pay rise - in October!!!! It's not much of one, but at least it's something

Recycling day at home, so all boxes are out ready for the council to deal with and re-registered for mailing lists with the estate agents.

    Hope everyone's ok

Morning. Back from fishing. It was a pretty good day, nice a nd sunny and fairly calm. We did not get the variety of species that we find on the North coast, but got some big congers and ling. Very satisfying. I took my uncle along from the W Mids and he caught some nice fish, so was quite happy.

Last day off today and going to a boot sale. The biggest one in Cornwall. I don't really need anything, but the family like looking and finding a bargain or 2.
My car is in France at the moment, some good friends have borrowed it for a booze cruise as it's large. I get some free wine out of it, so can't be a bad deal.. I have their car too, so have not lost anything.

Well must clean house as OH and 2 kids are staying in our caravan, and I have the messy teens and myself left here for the night.

    Cheers

Good Morning PW, Quasar, Scuzz, N9eav and all to follow. It's a really beautiful morning here. Have taken dogs out for a long walk and already sat out in the garden for ten minutes - so peaceful.
PW, good to see you back - just take each day as it comes, the house will soon be right again - and in the great scheme of things it's of low importance right now. Glad yesterday went as well as could be expected and that you have company.
Scuzz, it sounds like you need some proper sleep right now!
N9eav, glad the fishing trip went well!
Quasar, those old cook-books sound really fascinating - any favourite recipes to share?
Well, I have a day in school as the caretaker is on holiday and the biuiders need access. Maybe my room will be a bit more sorted by 5pm!
Aaaaagh! The dog has just tried to get behind the TV - the wretched cat has left a calling card. Grrh!!!!
Must go! (((HUGS))) to all who need one - and especially to JackieO today.

    Morning Everyone
Say hi to HJ for me to PW, she does right if she gets half the chance, getting away.
Didn't manage to get on yesterday only manage it if I wake up early, too tight to log on at peak rate, and its far too nice in day/evenings. End up either eating out, or even if we do that sitting ouside until late chilling with DH or playing cards/board games, not even drinking strong alcohol as needs to be more refreshing/thirst quenching. Its usually far warmer in the house at night, there is a nice slight breeze outside. We had fly screens fitted to all the windows/door grills yesterday so now we can leave the windows open until we go to bed (without any nasties flying/crawling in) which was better.

Knee/foot which I hoped would improve with the heat/dryness not much different. To whoever it was with the foot problem, sympathies they take ages to recover from anything:mad:   which is limiting the exercise but taking advantage of none weight bearing exercise in the pool. I have tried to seriously limit eating/together with watching what I have drunk, and think I may have lost an odd pound, but need to buy some scales today to be sure, at least I feel I have not gained.

Well its 7.45 am here now, so going to get off to open yesterdays pages to read off line.

(((hugs)))) where needed. birthday/anniversary greetings as appropriate.
Jackie0 thinking of you for Wednesday, your posts will be missed while you are in.
    Take care

Morning PINK-WINGED - (((hugs))) to you; you'll never forget your friend but time will make it easier to bear. I lost a dear sister-in-law five years ago at the age of 43; she
left a three-year old boy behind - I think about her every single day and have come to realise that, although the time we shared together was brief, I feel very privileged to have known her at all and to have been counted as one of her friends. Have a lovely time with HARIBO; ignore the housework - it can wait. How you feel right now is the most important thing.

SCUZZ - I think you need some time off to just vegetate and recharge your batteries. Also, perhaps a trip to your GP would be a good idea - you may be anaemic.

N9EAV - do you actually touch congers? I think they're disgusting to look at in photographs, let alone in the flesh!

I can't tell what the weather is going to do today. half the sky looks good and the other half doesn't! We had a terrific thunderstorm yesterday that just seemed to come out of nowhere; fortunately, I was indoors at the time. The morning had been lovely and sunny.

Plan today is to finish the filing and update my household manual - I've just been shoving scraps of paper in it so that, every time I pick it up, they all fall out. Then, having watched the first episode of Jamie Oliver's new series last night and the new one, Cook Yourself Thin, that was on straight after, plus the latest River Cottage series, I have loads of recipes to find on the net and print off. All three programmes are truly inspirational in different ways and, with such information and inventive programmes available, I simply cannot understand anyone preferring junk food! Especially when River cottage has been showing us exactly how animals are treated to bring us cheap meat. I am also going to start taking photographs of the things I am make for Christmas presents - it's something I should have started years ago - a sort of portfolio for my own reference, really. I honestly thought that, with DH away for around three weeks or so, I would end up kicking my heels for something to do but every day I add things to my 'to do' list. The intention is to become ultra-organised but I think that's too ambitious!

Anyway, off to have a shower so see y'all later.

    Morning all
I didn't get as much done yesterday as planned DD came over with DGS, he decided to 'help' me with all the jobs I was doing, DD tried to persuade him to leave me alone, but he insisted he was a good boy & was helping Nana, & it meant DD could put her feet up & rest for a while. DD knows I don't mind, when she & her siblings were younger I would always rather spend time with them than do chores.
Today I am being 'a lady wot lunches' meeting a friend for lunch & trying to find a couple of comfy pairs of shoes/sandals, I'm on my feet all day at work & walk 3 to 5 miles a day. I'm not allowed to wear trainers so I thought I'd look for some Van Dal shoes, I know they will be expensive, but the pair I'm wearing at the moment were a 40th birthday gift & I'm 56 this year, so I think I'm due for a new pair.
JackieO, I'll be thinking of you.
    Hugs Hester

Pink, sorry about your friend, hope you can think of her and smile soon (((((hugs)))))

9Neav, you don't go to car boots because you NEED something, bet you come back with carrier bags full :D

Hester, I am a lady wot lunches as well today, well Pizza Hut with my sisters 2 year old grandson, so will be fun, but before that I have to take the dog to the vets - extremely stressful as I have to muzzle him before I even take him through the door :o

Oh well, off to take him for a walk in the sunshine, hope everyone has a good day x
