I'd go for it MP if you have family there. I certainly wouldn't miss the weather here, & I'd go away to avoid Christmas if I was foolish enough to pay the prices they ask at that time of year  Usually I do a week or two before Christmas, as some places can be quite cheap at that time. Plus you can take photos of yourself sitting amongst the nativity & send them to the folks back home, saves on cards too :D

Getting a bit concerned about my trip to Nepal now, thinking of the hard work that Pete mentioned. Also wondering what clothes to take. Thought I'd got it down to a fine art, but now I'm being advised to wear big baggy trousers rather than my shorts.

I have family in SA so I WANT to/HAVE to go. Plus my kids have never experienced a HOT Christmas! The search continues.

About this time last year I was in Cape Town. 42 degrees; it was the hottest city on earth for two of the days I was there. I loved CT, and the exchange rate is amazing at the moment!

This year we're going back to our favourite place - Las Vegas!! :D:beer:

Duke. No need to wear baggy trousers. Loose fitting knee length shorts are fine, or for something a bit longer wear light cargo trousers.

    What's your itinerary?

  • I've been on a flight booking spree...

    Gibraltar in March
    Dublin in April
    Alaska in June

Considering Slovenia in late summer, looked at going for Easter but flights were extortionate

Alaskas been top of my wish list for ages so going to have fun planning out the details of the trip now.

I've added another one to my list. I'd already reported
    - Dubai: this month
    - Amsterdam: next month
    - France: summer

I can now add a combined trip to New York and Turks and Caicos to the list. First time for both so very exciting!!!!
  • I am off to Venice for a long weekend at the end of February, Paris for two nights in May and then almost 2 weeks in the USA (Washington DC and New York) in August/September.

Venice was an impulse buy - I was looking for a long weekend in the UK, or possibly in northern France by ferry and came across flights to Venice for a similar price to a ferry or UK train fare, discovered that Venice hotels weren't as expensive as they are in high season so decided to go there.

Oh dear not the Jimmy Krankie look

Can't get the link up Pete as it's now dead, although I've got a copy on my iPhone as a book but if I try to send it it's still dead.

    5 nights Kathmandu

    3 nights Pokhara

    2 nights Lumbini

    3 nights Chitwan

Looks like a load of temples .... lakes, caves, looking at mountains rather than climbing them, short cruise, Chitwan National Park, jeep safari, jungle walk, canoeing, oh God I'll probably tip out! Driving around & looking at various beautiful scenery.

Hot Christmases are over-rated. Honestly, I've had a few of them (SA and Australia) and one of the things I like about being back in the UK is a PROPER winter Christmas. Easter is a better time to go to SA.

Not overrated IMO. I go far away every Christmas and New Year.
    I wouldn't if I had small kids but I don't.
