SSE broadband feedback

  • No Problem, ShirleyKate Also, no need to bother about anything "Admin"- if you ever need to change settings on your Router, SSE told me they will talk you through any steps needed via the telephone.
Only one thing I didn't like- unlike BT Internet, where the Routers Wifi signal shows up on your computer as, e.g. BTINTERNET6166LHY (when you'll know the signal is from a BT Router,) SSE Router signal doesn't show up as coming from a SSE source.
My own SSE Router signal shows only as TNCAP9C284B
So when you first connect to your new SSE Router, make sure your Wifi is from YOUR Router (if this makes sense)
SSE does provide an easy Quick Set-Up guide, plus 2 spare ASDL filters in case they're needed, also an Ethernet cable, with your new Router, a few days prior to your switch-over.
They don't charge for this I believe- I didn't even get charged for post/packing.
SSE's small "Technicolour" Router is all pre-programmed, so all you do is plug it in, switch on, find its signal on your computer, enter the WPA password that's underneath the Router, and you're connected. Good Luck ! :T

The routers SSID (wifi name) is set to a generic one by the router/modem manufacturer as this router is used by a few ISP's - If you dont like it then you can change it yourself in the admin settings normally to get into the admin settings you enter the routers ip address in your browser and the password is the routers serial number and this does work with the standard router as i have tried it on a friends but the router i have is the Fibre one and the serial number password doesnt seem to work. I do have great fun setting mine to different police departments to set off the curtain twitchers every now and again

I only wont to get into the Admin side as i have alot of port forwarding to setup but for the normal internet user there is no need to worry about that.
  • 1) Broadband took 6 weeks to get up and running, installation was canceled without notifying me

    2) Abysmal P2P speeds for most of the day mon-fri

    Cheap for a reason

I always rename my SSID and change the key to the same as I always use. That way all of my users have seamless transition, they just log on to the new router automatically. I am on my fourth router doing this.

I am just starting to investigate a move as plusnet out of contract will be £33.97 (or £32.47 with line rental saver)against SSE £23.25, if they are only willing to give £1 off then I will be off. If they were to offer the new sign up price of £26.48 / £24.98 without giving the cash back they might retain a few more.
  • If you join the incl. SSE £23.50 plan via TopCashBack, you will get £70.70p !!! back. (offer expires in 3 days time. I did !!

BUT for anyone thinking of switching they seem to switch your phone over before even starting the BB switch to ensure downtime is kept to a minimum .
I don't have a landline so would they install it in a single visit thereby avoiding such delays?

Best phone SSE and ask them direct- you may get charged the £30 connection fee though !

  • Looking past the issue of installation and getting the service started (or migrated from another supplier), how is the SSE Broadband service itself on an everyday basis- does streaming video work OK, how are downloads, is the web browsing experience good etc? And are there any/many service outages?

I believe the service is using the BT / openreach network. You will find that most cheaper providers will manage speeds and may throttle P2P during peak times.

What you must also remember that usually for the first ten days of going live your ISP is doing line tests on your line to establish what speed to set you to.

I am switching over my fibre tomorrow then phone line went over two weeks ago.

I emailed over a week ago regards not being able to log onto http://sse.netintelligence.com/ with the credentials that SSE provided and still haven't received a reply.

Proof is in the tasting so will wait and see tomorrow what it compares to my BT fibre speeds.
