If you are serious about using veg oil, or you have 'issues' with using veg oil made for the food chain, then why not recycle old veg oil from your local takeaway or start an oil collecting round for the local pubs and hotels?

My mate does this, he collects the oil from the fryers at the local pub, the landlady is more thaqn happy for him to take it away to save on disposal costs.

I don't think he bothers doing anything with it, just straight in the tank, but then it is an old Landy, so it's pretty tolerant. He says it's best to alternate between a tank of cooking oil and then a tank of diesel.

He says it does smell like he's driving a chippy waggon when using the cooking stuff.

Some eateries still have to pay for the safe disposal of used veg oil, but even if you were to pay the eateries for their used oil to ensure a supply, say a token 5p or 10p per litre, you would still save a small fortune over diesel costs, and you can legally use upto 2500 litres per year without paying duty - you'd also be recycling a used product!.

    .

You are wrong.... duty is still payable on waste veg oil...

No he is correct. You can produce or use or just do one for up to 2500 litres per year and no duty whatsoever is payable.

HMRC do no differentiate between waste oil, "new oil" or home made biodieselt up to and including that figure.

If you search using google I suspect there will be some mention of other people's experiences, good or bad. Or try Vauxhall forums.
  • ok bro what you do is get your oil heated up, im a plumber so was easy for me cut into the water circullation and extend it into your oil holder, that will heat the oil to a nice temp then get it switched up so you can choose between the veg oil and diesel, you will only use diesel start and to finish your journeys...

if your going to, get it right, heat your oil with a 12v baby bottle warmer from Mothercare. Just put it on the fuel filter....

bNow thats an idea. Is it worth the effort for the colder months? Can you just warm it up a bit before start-up?
