I signed 1 week ago. I assume contracts were exchanged last week or will be this week.
My solicitor has sent me a final bill today which was paid immediately by me and he's proposing to other party solicitors a completion date of Friday.
Thanks re: utilities. Need to find some cheap deals.
Quick diversion: I'd like broadband but don't need use of a phone line. ..I understand I don't need one installed depending on the area so I don't have to pay line rental or something. ...how'd I find out About this situation?
You can sign contracts whenever you want. It doesn't make a difference.
Exchanging contracts is a legal process which you will be aware of. You will be specifically asked if you are ready to exchange and will set a completion date. You will know before and after this has happened. It's a big deal.
If you are assuming you have exchanged contracts, you haven’t. Alternatively you may have an incompetent solicitor.0 -
How on earth can you not know if you've exchanged.... Beggars belief0

OP, could you please confirm whether or not you intend to pay solicitor and how quickly?0

Yes. I know it's a 'legal process'. Most of these stages are. I've signed contracts and the solicitor knows I'm happy to exchange and want to move in immediately. I don't see why he has to ask. He has already set a preliminary completion date, which I obviously understand is in lieu of satisfactory exchange.0 -

Solicitor has been fantastic! Swift, highly communicative with emails at every stage! All relevant documents immediately emailed to me! Very thorough. Quick at conducting all processes, such as searches, contracts, liasing with lender, other solicitors etc. Have in writing all documents sent to other parties. All in well under 2 months. Brilliant and stress free. Not one of these slow dodgy ones that some people round here hire to be all money saver :rotfl:
Can't wait to collect my keys this or next week without people trying to throw in imaginatory obstacles :j
(Money savers are notorious for suffering paranoia too):beer:0
