you are getting the couples disability premium ... you won't get the single disability premium as well.
does your wife already receive carers allowance for looking after you?

    Thank you.

My wife has entered a carers allowance claim from 12/3/15 to 31/3/15 as advised by the MacMillan advisor when my PIP claim commenced.

    Hope that helps.

    Thanks

  • Think the single disablement premium was the severe disablement element?

there will be no carers premium until carers allowance is in payment.
they will deduct the amount of carers allowance in its entirety from your income support claim, but will add a carers premium.

as i have stated before .... you will be better off if your wife does not claim carers allowance because you would get 2 x severe disability premiums instead.

but you have to claim the severe disability premium ... they don't pay it automatically

i dont understand exactly what you mean by 'disablement premium. you are confusing yourself and everyone else ;)
there are 3 premiums for disability with income support ( as opposed to 2 with ESA ... but the ESA is higher to being with and already includes a disability premium)
    disability premium
    severe disability premium
    enhanced disability premium.

all 3 can be in payment at the same time

Thank you, and apologies for the confusion - that was the terminology used by the gentleman I spoke to at JobCentre Plus earlier - took it from my notes.

I can't get ESA until SSP finishes in September.

So basically I need to claim for the severe couples disability premium? How do I go about that, and will it be eventually added to my existing claim? Will it be backdated, and is it automatic?

Then ignore the carers element previously mentioned?

Once I do that I think I'm happy with it.

Apologies again for the confusion. Hopefully one day it might sink in!

    Thanks

  • Just checked out the severe disabled premium rules:

I get enhanced Daily Living Component of PIP, and my wife at standard. Is that sufficient?

As long as it's just you two and no one claims carers allowance for either of you. Your wife needs to be on standard PIP care. Mobility doesn't count. You need to fill in a simple form, which you have to request from DWP.

This was claimed for the period before IS commenced (12/3-31/3); IS commenced 1/4 - this is what I was told by my MacMillan advisor. I'm not claiming Carers Allowance whilst I'm claiming Income Support.

Just wanted to clarify this to avoid confusion, and also to confirm I understand this.

    Thanks

    Hi all

Got my Income Support letter today, confirmed what I was told on the phone on Monday.

Spoke to them, and they apparently automatically send out an IS10 form for the severe disability premium which I need to complete and return to them and they will add it to my claim backdated to 01/04/15.

That should just about sort everything out.

Got my blue badge through today too :)

    Thanks

  • Got a letter from DWP re Carers Allowance today.

My wife is entitled to CA from 13/3 as suggested - they have said that they need to check against the IS I'm receiving; so a standard response letter by the looks of it, but we should receive our entitlement by 1st June.

I did clearly mark on the form we were only claiming to the day before my IS commenced so should hopefully go through no problems.

Just wanted to keep you updated.

    Thanks
