Our main problem is opening a euro account. Most of the banks here don't offer the facility and the ones in Spain want residencia and a permanent address both of which we have not got

I opened an account last week at Santander in Mojacar, Almeria. Just needed to show my passport. Now I'm back in the UK I can log on to the Santander.es site (which is in English).

It was very easy & straightforward.

Only to escape to in the winter! Just bought an apartment there, you're right it's a great time to buy with the Euro being so weak.

Yes thats a good Idea , although it can still get cold here in the winter , its so much brighter and normally still sunny .

I dont miss the overcast grey sky and morning frost , for some reason
I just feel happier when its sunny !!

Enjoy you apartment !!, think you have chosen the perfect time to buy !!

    Cheers Tony :)

Is there an equivalent of rightmove website for Spanish property? I have never visited the southern part of Spain but have driven the coast from Barcelona to France and really liked Catalonian coast north of Barcelona before hitting France. The problem is the south seems very dry and arid. Are there any areas in southern Spain similar to the northern coast (greener)?

    Thanks

Hi I think rightmove do places in Spain too , but try thinkspain
    thats quite good !

It is quite dry where I am in fact almost desert like ! to the extent they used our area to film a spaghetti western back in the 60s

It is a lot greener a little more inland of Alicante , I took a drive over to Castella the other day and noticed it was much greener with a lot of pine forests too ( I think the mountain range creates a rain shadow area , ie dry on the coat side wetter on the inland side )

Probably still a lot hotter and dryer than North Spain though !

    Cheers Tony:)
