all the police and newspaper reports are about STRETCHED limo,s , and in most cases being wrongly insured or the driver not having a BUS licence , the OP never mentioned that the limo was stretched , and I think using one for a wedding would be pointless

Not correct. It said they didn't have criminal record checks like bus drivers have to and this

Officers uncovered links to “organised criminality” and found a number of “cloned” vehicles. The operation has led to “several large-scale investigations”, Acpo said.

There are currently more than 6,000 limousines in the UK. Most have been imported from the US and do not meet UK safety regulations.

Chief Superintendent Geraint Anwyl, chairman of the National Roads Policing Intelligence Forum, said: “Stretch limousines are largely unregulated because they fall short of existing legislation.

“However, we know that many of the vehicles are at least five years old when imported and do not meet the technical and road safety requirements for vehicles in this country. They therefore pose a real risk to road safety and to those passengers who travel in them. In addition to this, unlike bus drivers, limousine drivers are not subject to criminal record checks.”

He continued: “Early results from the operation show at least 160 stretch limousines were checked in 15 police forces showing an offending rate of 66%. Twelve vehicles were immediately prohibited for serious defects and taken off the road, whilst a further 27 were issued with delayed prohibitions.

I'm not remotely interested in arguing about stretch limousines but wonder why the op posted but didn't respond to the post asking how the driver was claiming it was the ops fault?

    and you believe the papers?

I used the word bus to simplify things ,

The op didn't say it wasn't stretched.
They are used for weddings, INCORRECT (stretched limos) they are used on a Friday night filled with !!!!ed up toffs

correct , and you went on a ramble about STRETCHED limos , lots of normal fully legal limos out there , why join them all up with your silly statement

  • chrism123,

Does either the broker or the limo company have a presence on any social media websites where it's possible for people to leave reviews?
If so, a facebook or Twitter comment (I don't use Twitter so don't know if this can be done) warning potential customers that they may be faced with either paying additional costs or losing their booking with no notice might get the attention of the companies concerned.

I think from the beginning there has been confusion between normal limo,s (posh taxis) and those horrible overstretched and often illegally operated stretched cabs

RS2000 , what has a story about a 74 yr old retired coach driver got to do with this , would you like me to name 2 retired police officers that have faced similar charges?

I never mentioned anything about them being dishonest although some employ criminals.

In all fairness, I doubt if there is an industry in the UK that doesn't have some criminals (either current or ex) in their ranks.
