New ADSL2+ Modem Router

It's amazing that a 90 minute support call happened, without mentioning it
I have heard that Zen support isn't what it used to be...it was probably the best of the bunch a couple of years or so back......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0 -
Now I'm even more confused.
Just tried the modem router in the test socket: No DSL or Internet lights on router.
Tried it in the normal socket with plate back on - as above.
Tried an old plug in phone - that socket is completely dead!
in that case, your internal phone wiring has been bodged, and it may be worth getting a local phone eng bod round to check it before you go any further... are you sure that one is supposed to be the master socket??......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

..unless that USED to be the master socket and someone's taken it out of circuit and used another one (like the one your router's plugged into) as the master...........Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

depends...when on ADSL I Was always in the test socket, but that was only to squeeze ann extra couple of kb/s out of the line
Master socket is normally adequate, once you've eliminated a line fault and know your connection is rock-solid.
4 things stand out for me (on the internet side)...
1. router plugged into phone extension - no...just, no
Maybe I'm using wrong terminology. Its a properly wired into the wall socket where you plug in a phone
2. not tested in test socket
see my previous post
3. not checked on ring wire
???
4. a PPP session drop is almost exclusively down to the ISP and/or the BT kit in the exchange (as it's Zen you'll be on an IPStream connection).
You really need to post your line stats as windup eluded to earlier...
Now, the wifi issue...
1. local interference - use wifi analyser on an android phone to see that channels are in use around you, then set your router to use the least congested one.
Don't have any android phones (just iPhone & very old Nokia. Will invite friend around and try hers.
2. old, out-of-date drivers for your lappy's wifi card - check with windows update (optional updates), the manufacturer's (of the wifi card, not necessarily the lappy manufacturer's) site, and as a last resort try SlimDrivers
I've got windows updates set to automatic, will try to find out manufacturer of wifi card and check there
that should help narrow it down a bit....
Thanks. I'm getting a bit techied out now0 -

Oops, sorry
Don't stress about an android phone, there's probably a similar app for (Cr)apple stuff... if not, borrow your mate's......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

You can say that again! Unfortunately, many things in this house were bodged by the previous owners. As far as I know it was the main socket and in the past we've used it with an old plug in phone and it worked ok...unless that USED to be the master socket and someone's taken it out of circuit and used another one (like the one your router's plugged into) as the master.....
We've been here 15 years, so I think we might have noticed. There are 4 other phone sockets but none look like the master, just the small square plate with room for one phone to be plugged in.0 -

Is this where I need to be (Intel Centrino Wireless N2230) for updating drivers?

going off at tangents again.
post some facts from the router config, I doubt anyone reading this will have a clue what the problem is without any firm facts.
Check the wiring, by tracing it from the point it enters the house, otherwise you'll be going around in circles forever, use a known working phone to test one socket at a time.0 -

exactly.... there's 2 separate issues going on, both need tackling in isolation.........Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
