yes, sync=connection speed

is the router plugged into a master socket, an extension, or a test socket0 -
The router is (and always has been) plugged into a phone extension socket. The master is behind a large piece of furniture in another room.
I got to the Information by following the link in your post above, but have no idea how to get there myself.0 -
First thing an isp normally asks anyone with these type of problems to do, is to plug it into the master socket, or if you have one, the test socket
removing the ring wire may improve the speed slightly

how you got there doesn't matter, save the link and use it when it fails.0 -
I've got the 2 links bookmarked on the laptop so I can check next time it drops the connection.
I won't have a clue what any of it is telling me though0 -
copy and paste it now0

You are not going to get anywhere until you plug into the test socket behind the master socket faceplate, which is where it should be connected to permanently anyway.
At present you have no idea if there is a fault on your extension socket(s), and that is a key area you need to eliminate, since a fault there will be chargeable should OR be called out.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
It's amazing that a 90 minute support call happened, without mentioning it0

Do you mean it should always be connected to the test socket?
or just the master?0 -

depends...when on ADSL I Was always in the test socket, but that was only to squeeze ann extra couple of kb/s out of the lineMaster socket is normally adequate, once you've eliminated a line fault and know your connection is rock-solid.
4 things stand out for me (on the internet side)...
1. router plugged into phone extension - no...just, no
2. not tested in test socket
3. not checked on ring wire
4. a PPP session drop is almost exclusively down to the ISP and/or the BT kit in the exchange (as it's Zen you'll be on an IPStream connection).
You really need to post your line stats as windup eluded to earlier...
Now, the wifi issue...
1. local interference - use wifi analyser on an android phone to see that channels are in use around you, then set your router to use the least congested one.
2. old, out-of-date drivers for your lappy's wifi card - check with windows update (optional updates), the manufacturer's (of the wifi card, not necessarily the lappy manufacturer's) site, and as a last resort try SlimDrivers
that should help narrow it down a bit..........Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0 -
Now I'm even more confused.
Just tried the modem router in the test socket: No DSL or Internet lights on router.
Tried it in the normal socket with plate back on - as above.
Tried an old plug in phone - that socket is completely dead!0
