That really is a good idea to put 'sorry that the item was lost in the post' as feedback. Has this method been publicised through other forums and selling groups?

I leave it too, but as a follow up comment so that it stands out.

not that I know of. but I don't actively seek out other forums etc, as mse is the place where I normally find everything lol..

I was thinking about it for a while, but I was also thinking about the flip side of it, would it invite/give other people the idea of saying they haven't received their items, as they know you will refund, if that makes sense ... but in the end... I have started... stating in their feedback.. re- item posted out and not received... hoping it might deter them doing it again.. as it as mentioned in their feedback...

I also don't leave feedback straightaway, purely for this reason now...

I leave it as a follow up feedback so they get their regular feedback straightaway as normal. Given the amount of feedback I leave I don't think anyone looks past the 1st page of 'great buyer' anyway...
I think if they buyer complained to Ebay it could get removed?

It's about how you word it. "Sorry your item went missing" is just an apology about factual events.
"Buyer's items went missing in the post again" is completely different.

yep agree, treat your feedback, as it should be on that transaction..

I can see nothing wrong with saying that the parcel was sent and went missing/didn't receive it, as it is factual, nothing malicious, and not actually blaming the buyer, you are just stating a fact..

if the buyer complains about the feedback, then you can ask ebay/paypal to investigate any other claims they might have put in etc, as its only someone dodgy I would have thought would have wanted this type of feedback removed..

I always check the feedback left of the buyer for INR's to. Most time they don't leave feedback (the smart thing to do if they were a serial INR, guess you just don't know) but some leave 'problem arised but was sorted' kind of feedback...I had one a week back who brought a clearly advertised item from me and demanded a refund because he thought it was a lot bigger (and when I say a lot I mean he thought it was A4 compared to 10cmx10cm) and demanded a refund without returning the item (which I offered on return ofc)

Left me a neutral as I naturally declined to play his game but his feedback was full of 'Had a problem but seller was very helpful' kind of things, don't know if he was just trying to get refunds left right and centre or was just a problematic buyer in first place.
People don't know what they want until you show them.

I have had a few messages asking where is their item etc.. and then, a day later they open a case saying they haven't received it, I have had a few of them lately...

and they don't even reply to my messages.. and strangely the parcels which I have refunded, as they say they haven't received them, never get delivered back to me, e3ven though our business details/address etc is on the parcel...

I have now started leaving feedback, saying sorry that their parcel got lost in the post.. this way, if other sellers start doing this, they might stop trying to scam the system...

From the posts so far, it would appear that the 'sellers' are under the impression that when 'buyers' contact them to say that an item has not been delivered but it has been dispatched, then they, the buyers, are trying to cheat the system. Perhaps some of them are, but not all of them.

Take my own case. About three months ago, we ordered a Unibond Moisture Absorber and when it didn't arrive, we contacted the seller. They explained that ours wasn't the first such case and that they would send out a replacement. When this didn't arrive, we contacted the seller again and were told that the manager had advised that we be refunded. We were and by sheer chance I managed to buy the item at half price in B & Q. Neither the original nor the replacement ever arrived here. Did they get back to the seller? I don't know. What I do know is that, for whatever reason, parcels do go missing from the delivery chain. Attempting to smear the buyer without any evidence whatsoever, is not a good idea since it may deter that buyer from complaining if the same thing happens again and even put them off online buying altogether.

Me leaving one comment saying "sorry your item did not arrive" as a follow up feedback is going to cause a buyer who genuinely did not receive their item any issues, but it may help identify a serial fraudster for future sellers.

If so many sellers feel this way, rather than complaining at the sellers, perhaps direct your anger at ebay for turning communication between buyer and seller into conflict rather than an attempt at resolution.

Or perhaps just don't go round the internet looking for things to be offended at.

I am neither angry nor offended and am simply pointing out my own experience. And why should I be angry at eBay anyway? The solution to the missing parcels problem has nothing to do with them but lies fairly and squarely on the shoulders of the sellers and the reliability and accountability of their chosen delivery service.

As I said, in the bit you clipped out.
communication between buyer and seller into conflict rather than an attempt at resolution

I am happy to resolve buyer's issues. I am less happy when the feedback buyers have left for others suggests repeated issues, which is what was being discussed here before you waded in to be offended.

Ebay's communication system pits buyers against sellers, with a small subset of "buyers" exploiting it to commit fraud.

But thanks for your anecodotal example of why we should all do things differently. I'll certainly take it on board

I'm sorry, but given that the thread was about this:

"Sold something Friday afternoon 3.30, seller paid staright away. My listing stated will I dispatch within one working day and will be sent 2nd class..

7.30 Monday monring I get "Hi, could you tell me if you have posted xxxxx yet as I haven't rec'd it.."

and changed very quickly to lost in transit posts, I saw no harm in putting forward the buyers point of view. It was not my intention to upset the sellers, but now that the reason behind the "I'm sorry that your item has gone astray" has been highlighted, I will be very wary in future. Tarring all sellers with the same brush, is not, in my opinion, good business practice. You may now continue with your discussion without interference from this buyer at least.
