My old licence is mostly sellotape. Very little of the actual licence left.

Hi, I have just ran my details though the link you've provided, and I aren't on their db. I have moved a couple of times and only have only just found my paper licence. I have also changed my name since.... am I better off ringing DVLA or will the PO sort it for me? Thanks
    Do it online.

You may need to be prepared to lie about the addresses you've lived at, if it's still at an ancient address.

Remember, it's a legal requirement to keep the address on your driving licence AND on any cars registered in your name up to date...

Have you updated your name on national insurance? They match the national insurance number to driving licence number and if names don't match it doesn't work.

It only has to be an address they can contact you at, parents address is acceptable for the car V5 unsure about the licence though.

Ohh, I changed my name by deed poll in 2009 (ish) and they are one of the people I don't recall contacting, I have claimed certain benefits since the name change, so do you think they will know?

    Thanks :)

It has a valid until date, that as LeeUK says, will be your 70th birthday.

I still have mine, and I have no intention of getting one of these new fangled ones either. The photocard part has to be renewed every few years, and costs an arm & a leg.

However, if you type your number into that DVLA site where you can check your entitlements and endorsements online, it won't be recognised. I don't think we exist any more, so I'm even less likely to send it away in case they "lose" my motorcycle entitlement.

You will be recognised if you miss out the issue number (which is the last 2 digits on the end of number 5 on your paper license) I have just checked mine and it is valid until I am 70.

Nope, I don't exist as of 2 minutes ago. :o

So if you are not on the database does that mean if the police did a check you wouldn't show as having a licences , for that fact alone I would be getting it renewed.

According to the BBC article, the migration will be complete "mid 2015", given the usual competency of these departments, I will worry if I'm not on the database in mid 2020.

If I get stopped, I simply get a producer and have to find a Police Station that has a desk to go to...........

Now the insurance could be a problem, if they no longer accept a photocopy of my licence and my word that I'm not banned.
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

I've still got an old green one from 1991 and I can type my number and NI number into the DVLA site and I can view my details.
