Not that i'm glad it happened to you Ivory Tinkler but I am glad you can back me up. I feel quite offended that I came on here for the first time to warn people and I cause a disagreement and am not believed. I can't believe a) that people would think i'd come on just to make something up and b) that someone would make something like that up, it's not like I'm personally trying to get money off people, i'm trying to save it so cheers and i'm happy you sorted it before anything happened like it did to us
Do i feel silly this morning.... thanks to you i have cancelled my card, however it is awful that people are rude to others who just want to save anone else from being scammed....well do lauraloo, we need more like you out there...tut tut to those who think that people without money to burn are stupid, we are just trying a little too hard to make a little go a long way.0 -
i canceled my card shortly after last posting. Is there no one you can report sites like this to? consolepackagedeals.co.uk is still there and there will be people getting taken in by it every second. especially with the price they have Wii's at and them being out of stock almost everywhere. I used a stock check site and got a Wii from amazon for £179.99, think ill stick to sites i know from now on.
the site just looks so convincing with its secure site symbol and google search at the bottom. has any one read their T & C?

 Hi,
Yes, Yes, I was duped as well before finding this forum thread. I have quickly cancelled my card this afternoon and luckily nothing seems to have hit it. The www.consolepackagedeals.co.uk website seems to have disappeared now, I wonder what it is now trading as ???
I feel sick, as I am an IT engineer and should no better, can't believe I was tricked !!!
Lessons learnt:
1) If it sounds too good, it probably is
2) Research the website you are just about to buy from.
3) Try and get recommendations of its trade
Hope this helps, but I guess the next person to fall foul, will stumble across the new site and won't see this thread until too late.
Regards

These nasty people are now operating as Console Package Deals or CPD UK.

I googled 'Nintendo Wii' after friend who was desperate having tried all the local shops to find that they were all out of stock. I had no idea what the price was supposed to be so when I found this site I ordered one.
The check out page looks perfectly genuine and secure 'https' https://www.mcssl.com/SecureCart/Checkout.aspx? and I double clicked the padlock - all looked Ok. After entering all my details, name, address, card details including the security code and my date of birth. Then a message appeared to say that the card had been declined, could be because the number was not entered correctly or the date of birth entered could not be verified. I entered the details aain - twice! Same thing. *Alarm Bells* I suspected that I had been conned.
Thanks to this info on Money Saving Expert I immediately phoned my card company, explained the details and cancelled the card. But sadly, I do fear that many gullible people will be conned unless something can be done.0 -
Still accessable today on line. Surely someone can get this site pulled?0

Using Google for a name check on someone, a UK user last month stumbled across a cached link to a website containing the names, addresses, post codes, credit card numbers and credit card security codes of around 60 British residents.
He raised the issue immediately with VISA. No interest. With Mastercard. No interest. With the card issuer's 'professional' association. No immediate response. With Google. No instant response. With his bank. They told him to report to his local police station.
Meanwhile, the website stayed up.
He gave up and contacted BBC Radio 4's 'You & Yours'. He had a simple question. And they had a simple question:
If, in the UK, you spot an ongoing Internet fraud relating to credit cards, to whom can you immediately file an online report?
The answer was:
No-one.
A representative of the credit card companies' association lamented its own inability to run a hot-line / website reporting facility. 'We don't want to duplicate reporting activity that may already be occurring elsewhere.'
So that's all right then. Everyone thinks everyone else is doing the work so nobody does anything at all.
The good news is that the City of London police is apparently developing a one-stop Internet fraud reporting facility so that anyone, anywhere in the UK, will be able to instantly click-and-report online.
It will be up and running in two years' time. Perhaps they've never heard of website developers.
Meantime, the best thing if you do have evidence of international fraud (according to City of London police) is contact them or the Met (if London). Or your local police station if outside the capital.
Chances are, the response will be more robust than a visit to your door by a helpful community patrol person on a bicycle.
But don't count on it.0 -
Yes i got scammed by this very thing. Myself and my wife were blinded by the deal and tried four times to get a wii. As soon as order declined came in for the fourth time i phoned the credit card company to let them know. I got told nothing was pending on my account and not to worry. Then 2 months later i got a bill for £390 on my card to western union. After disputing the payment they said it was a valid transaction as it used my name, date of birth, address, etc. I then contacted western union direct and got told i had "sent money tro india". They were more than helpful and told me it was a scam and to write to my card supplier, with the card statement, any evidence (order declined printouts) and any other information. Now 2 months down the line i have been re-credited £390 and been told fraud department are investigating the names and emails addresses i provided them with.0

Just come across a company calling themselves www.stelthsolutions.co.uk - don't bother trying to find them on google, yahoo!, msn, ask, or anything else cos you won't.
The site looks legit except for one little error - the job opportunities alt-tag said "powerplaydirect", so I looked at their site and what would you know - they look exactly the same except for the pictures on stelthsolutions are obviously lifted when you compare the two sites.
Looking on whois it appears that stelthsolutions were registered last week (17th March 08) and by a completely different registerer than powerplay. Stelthsolutions however claim that they've been around since 2002 ... like powerplay!!
Like the earlier posts my wife ordered a NDS (twice) and it told her the card had been declined. We received emails telling us the order was 'pending'. Talking to the credit card company they said the ordered had declined it themselves after checking that it was ok - shouldn't the credit card companies see this as odd? I would. The card's cancelled now anyway so hopefully it'll be ok, and it only had another £500 or so before it hit the limit.
Note to the IT professional posting before that feels daft for falling for it - don't. I'm an IT professional myself, and I can easily see how you would fall for this - you're honest.
