stupotstu – are there any other remaining colleagues with loans outstanding or are you the only one left?

Is your employer aware of all these interpersonal staff loans? What I mean is, if they don’t is there a way you *could* make them aware that this person is purposely using her work contacts environment as a way of luring money from staff due to familiarity on the premise of it being a “loan” and thus causing potential hostile relationships between staff which in turn is likely to affect the business negatively? Pretty much same as the poster above has said about shaming her in all ways possible to try and get your money back. ;)

Good point, depending on your HR lot, they might be all over this. Although if they did let her go, you might be waiting even longer to be paid :rotfl:

I would be shaming her OP. Stick a notice up in the staffroom, list her workplace creditors and the amounts. You're leaving in 2 months anyway.

or tell her this is what you plan to do if not paid back in full
Plan: [STRIKE]Finish off paying the remainder of my debts[/STRIKE].
[STRIKE]Save up for that rainy day[/STRIKE].
Start enjoying a stress debt free life.....now enjoying. thanks to all on MSE

By what I understand from other work colleagues who have previously loaned her money too, her husband has no idea about her debts. They only married in the summer. I heard that the holiday she is going on is one she has arranged for her husbands birthday. From my thinking it would mean she has paid for it.

Anyway, the money was due to clear this week but hasn't so I sent her a firm but enquiring text. No reply. Followed it up the next day with a "less friendly" one stating I wanted to stop being p@@@ed around and actually paid back. I also pointed out that it was ridiculous that I was chasing after her to get my own money back which I'd loaned to help her out. Again no reply.

I'm giving her to the 25th of the month to pay the money back which is the week we get paid then I am kicking in the courts.

Good move, but I'd be writing the ultimatum in a letter to her home address rather than sending a text.

I wouldn't be waiting until the 25th. I'd complete a Money Claim Online now so that she knows you are serious and come pay day hopefully coughs up otherwise you'll be another pay cycle down the line.

As far as I am aware I am the only one outstanding.

Unfortunately, the first 5 people were actually discreet about it and it was only when another party who knew about the loans spotted me chatting to her one day did this other party then call and tell me not to loan her any cash as she had had quite a few loans out of other people. By that point I had already loaned her the full amount. I suspect that my money paid off some of the others.

I work in a large organisation and am on a professional registration. As such I need to conduct myself in a manner so as not to bring disrepute on my profession so posters naming her would be a massive no no! I'm not sure how HR would be as they are more for the institution rather than individuals within it.

At the end of the month I'm calling her husband and starting court proceedings.......

I'm hoping that he will do the right thing and cough it up before I have to do that.

Start the court proceedings at least a week before payday, so that she's just been paid and might have some money available to give you.

Is it possible to have an honest chat with your colleague to discuss what the next steps should be? Maybe then you could mention getting her husband involved and keeping the whole situation as discreet as possible?
