Good move, but I'd be writing the ultimatum in a letter to her home address rather than sending a text.

Unfortunately, I don't have her address. I could go and get it out of her personal file but I'm not sure I could lift it out for my own gain......

Is it possible to have an honest chat with your colleague to discuss what the next steps should be? Maybe then you could mention getting her husband involved and keeping the whole situation as discreet as possible?

I have had several "honest" chats with her face to face. She always has told me various things like "I'm off tomorrow and I'll go back down the building society and see why the money has not gone through." Then I would get a text the next day to say it is sorted. After 3 days nothing would arrive and I'd text her and she'd text back "it takes 5 days from building society". Then it still wouldn't arrive. The original delays was waiting on a pay out from her bank.

The last one this week went along the lines of "its done. 100%. Sorry for the f@@k around". Still nothing. Ignoring texts and messages on facebook.

They are still a friend. Maybe a bad friend right now but still a friend. We all make mistakes.

I really hope the OP sorts things out and she gets her money back.

Sorry to hear this. I hope you get your money back soon.

This is coming from someone who lost out on £3600 my uncle borrowed in 2008! and never saw a penny back so I know what it feels like!

At the end of the month I'm calling her husband and starting court proceedings.......

I'm hoping that he will do the right thing and cough it up before I have to do that.

It isn't his debt, he doesn't have to do anything.

Because you haven't done anything yet, she probably thinks you're bluffing. I wouldn't wait till the end of the month pesonally, I'd be phoning/making the money claim/informing him of her outstanding debt right now.
She has acknowledged it several times via text [hope you kept them] so get on with it.

I once loaned money to a colleague and never got it back but fortunately for me it was only £20!
I would resist the temptation to tell her husband. There could be all sorts of things going on that you don't know about. I have known woman who are controlled by their husbands and even suffered beatings because they were deemed 'poor' at handling cash or bringing in 'enough' money. Its not your fault but there could be bad consequences if you tell him.
I agree that small claims court is probably the way. Have you offered for her to pay in instalments? Is that an option? You shouldn't have to of course but I am wondering if that might encourage her to pay? I guess she would probably just stop paying though! Hope you find a way forward.

Would you still think that if you knew that they had gone off had their teeth bleached, booked a holiday, bought a load of designer brand make up etc etc whilst not bothering to pay a penny back??

Anyway, she has finally responded to a text where I stated I was going to HR with the issue to see where I stand. Usual old nonsense "I'll pay it into your account this week" etc etc
