Oh come on! Two wrongs don't make a right. Her friend messed up and didn't keep her promise of paying the back the money on time but no need to cause them further embarrassment IMHO.0 -
1st rule of lending money to friends and acquaintances:-
Only lend what you can afford to miss.
Unfortunately, it's only lend money you can afford to lose. If you miss it you couldn't afford to lend it
Glad you got most of your money back OP, just don't let her off returning the rest of it
Good luck0 -
Wow, thought I had it bad when me and my partner lent £140 out and only got half back.
Glad you got the majority of it back.0 -

If you read the whole thread, you will see that her 'friend' is a serial offender who has done this to several other members of staff. There's little doubt in my mind that she's only returned the loan after having notice of a civil action, and the fact that she's paid 80% back in one hit indicates that a) she had the money to pay it back all along or b) she's done the same sting again on another unsuspecting colleague in order to fend off legal action by the OP.
I don't think someone with her track record is easily 'embarassed'.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

I think you are right that the only reason she has given me 80% of it back is due to the discussion I had with her where I stated after 8 apparent failed attempts to pay the money back I said I was going to call her husband, discuss the matter with him and then launch legal proceedings. I also think that the money paid back is probably a large chunk of her wages. One of her previous creditors told me that he got paid his money paid back but always on pay day.
Thank you all for your input. I can't tell you how relieved I am. SPS XQuit Smoking 12 years 2 months.0 -

I did read the entire thread but I'm not into the naming & shaming business.
Learn the lesson, forgive and move on.
Glad she got some of her money back! :T0 -

i don't think it was meant as a 'name & shame' more of a warning to others at the workplace as she seems to rob peter to pay paul throughout the office...Plan: [STRIKE]Finish off paying the remainder of my debts[/STRIKE].

There was a time when friendship was enough.
Thank you Zenboor. Once upon a time I think it was. This has been a massive learning curve to me and I won't be so naive with helping people in the future. What a sad outcome for something done to genuinely help another. Hopefully others will be similarly cautious in the future.
