Depends what you mean by "favourite". Do you mean "If you had a choice of all supermarkets - where would you shop" , or do you mean "where do you do most of your shopping" ?. I would like to shop at Aldi , but there isnt a branch near me

And what has this got to do with "Marriage & Relationships" ? - unless you are saying you are in love with your supermarket :)

The only two big supermarkets that are local to me are Morrisons and Tesco. I personally prefer Morrisons because it's still got the feel of a traditional supermarket to it. But then again Tesco is more reasonably priced, has the advantage of being open 24 hours a day, and you've got all the household items you're ever likely to need all under one roof.

Until about 3 months ago I'd never set foot inside one of these discount supermarkets. But when I went to Aldi with a friend once I was quite surprised by how big the range of items they sell actually is. But it's still blindingly obvious that they try to keep things as cheap and cheerful as possible.

    Hi dlusman!

What someone considers "favourite" will depend on the person voting so we'll leave that up to you to decide :)

It's on the Family, marriage and relationships MoneySaving board because everyone here can relate to it and vote :)

    Waitrose
In terms of products (and clientele!) I would have to choose Waitrose. Sainsburys have good quality stuff, too.

The German supermarkets I only ever visit when it's coming up to Christmas and I want to buy some stollen or lebkuchen :)

Asda is best avoided, especially of a weekend!

    Aldi
    I voted Aldi.

Waitrose is my favourite in terms of the experience, staff, quality etc but Aldi blows away all competition on price.

It's very noticeable that Aldi are stealing Waitrose's customers in my local

They do do a lot of branded products now too, their wine is lovely.

I used to live near a Lidl, it had rubbish produce and attracted a dodgy crowd, not sure why aldi gets lumped with it [well I am but] as they're not alike at all.

Hmmm. It's either Aldi or Lidl for me. Short of the trek to either of the Sainsbury's, it's either Aldi or Lidl for me. Both have what I want. (apart from the coffee)

    Waitrose
I'm always confused by M&S always appearing on these lists. Do they actually have full supermarkets? I've seen plenty of Simply Food only stores but at best they are only the size of a Tesco Express which is more large convenience store than full supermarket.

We only have Waitrose and Sainsburys in our little town and as far as I am concerned on anything but price Waitrose wins hands down. Aldi and Lidle clearly have some great products and much better value than Waitrose but value isnt a major part of my consideration for favourite
  • Aldi
My nearest big supermarkets are Tesco and Aldi, but the nearest store to me is a Nisa, which sometimes does some good bargains. Personally I like a good browse round Aldi, I find it a bit more relaxing, but some items, e.g., catfood, we have to get from Tesco because Aldi doesn't stock the brand.

Aldi for me too! When you can get Waitrose quality produce at a fraction of the price, it's a no brainer for me. Someone commented on clientele, well all I can say is that the majority of the clientele at my local Aldi drive high end cars, SUVs and 4x4s and the like and live in £250k+ properties. Whereas it's not uncommon to find lower class pseudo-rich shopping for essential range produce in Waitrose :rotfl:

I've always wondered the same thing. I rarely wander into M&S (because I can get most of my food elsewhere) and always thought they were more for "I'm hungry and want something now", rather than somewhere to do the weekly shopping.
