Thats great that you managed to get the caravan home, El. I just love the sound of wild caravanning  as you say, arthritis and wotnot creeps up.
Sounds lovely El, a resounding +1 for disliking structured time/travel. Don't get me wrong, I like knowing that my flight will be on time, or that I get x days a year leave from a job where I work set hours, but I don't like feeling 'managed' in my down time. I even get grouchy when people invite you to parties etc. on a weekend when all you wanted was your jammies and a crap DVD :D

Me too! I think its why I've disliked Christmas the last few years. It sounds great, 2 weeks off. But this is what I ended up doing:
    23rd - 6 hours travel to Merseyside.
24th - shopping, family visit locally, gift wrapping.
25th - local family visit, meal, a walk.
26th - visit to my brother.
    27th - rest day.
    28th - 6 hours travel home.

    2 days "rest".

31st - travel to see partner and family
    1st - recover from 3am bedtime!
    2nd - rest day
3rd - clean the house for return to work.

Four days rest, in amongst all that stress. Thankfully, since I retire Later This Year, I'll never have to live like that again :p

Possibly more detail than you wanted, sorry about that!

On the caravan front some places have fairly cheap short term storage (days/weeks), although there's a cost you save on petrol etc., and also it's faster and easier when not towing. Then you can use it as a local base for more than one weekend if you like. Narrowboats & caravans do use solar panels more nowadays for some power needs, rather than generators, might be worth a look too, they weren't in use when we had one though.

On the smaller sites and more out of the way caravanning it might be worth looking at these: http://www.caravanclub.co.uk/uk-holidays/certificated-locations

Something to investigate before getting a generator - spotted this in the CL rules "Generators: before using a generator first seek the CL owner's permission and then consider others on site as well as any neighbours. Please refrain from using them late at night or early morning." I doubt if they're the only ones with rules like that. It did remind me that at the allotment when people are using them they can make a lot of noise & also the fumes can be smelly if you're downwind.

KC not to much info, it's good to know there's a few of us about :)

Visiting with others even when we love them dearly can be very exhausting, the physical side of going and returning can be hard ... but the mental side I find very draining, sometimes I just wanna go into a corner and hide :)

Hey see lovely to see you :)

I thunk if we were going to go to the same place then we would think about storing the caravan, but our hope is travel about, we also I tend on the wild camping so camp sites as noise from a generator won't be annissue, on the few occasions we do use a site we intend on using a hook up for electricity :)

Well been busy with ye old family stuff the last few days, think it's put Mr El into a bit of a panic ( well between that and our conversation last week) he now wants to retire at 60 as he doesn't think he will live till 65 ... sooooo I'm sure you can imagine how that's been :)

Back at uni today for one of those very heavy stressful and depressing days that we have to do but that no one enjoys

How about solar panels for caravan electricity? Would that work, or would you need to change your appliances over etc.? Wouldn't create noise, but could be a bit hit-and-miss in Scotland ;)

Well school was hard going as expected but that's it done for another wee bit.

Decided to buy myself a colouring book, things have been getting on top of me recently, I'm dealing with so many things and having no time to destress or take time for me ... so thought I would try colouring in, no need to think just pick a colour and go :)

Batteries...lots of batteries. It's probably an ideal application for LiFePO. However, another thing to consider is "What are you using electricity for?" If it is for something like boiling a kettle, then you probably haven't made the mind-set change from having a bit of copper with a kettle on one end and Drax on the other. Most modern electronic appliances are very stingy on power, and the bulk-power electrical devices often have substitutes (gas showers) or better ways of doing it (laundrettes).

Little wind turbines also have a place (one of the few) in this.
