Do you live near a Waitrose?

Waitrose, M & S, Sainsburys and Co-op near me, and I must say I use them all for different things (Sainsburys mainly for basics, Waitrose for things like wine and vegetables, M & S for specials, and Co-op quite rarely). I also use Food for Thought for some lactose-free products (which I have to have).
I like the mixture of different shops near me.chucknorris wrote: »Are there not more local choices, I live in Dorking, which is only a small town, but we have a Sainsburys, M&S, Waitrose, Lidl and a Tesco express. Not to mention that you can also shop via the internet of course.0 -
My nearest Waitrose is ~10,000 miles away yet houses are expensive.
What should I learn from that?0 -
Waitrose isnt that bad if you stick to the Essential Waitrose lines.
We shop on Ocado so theres a lot of Waitrose things on there and its not too bad, and noticeably better quality than the other supermarkets.Faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.0 -
I used to shop at Waitrose but online. It was relatively expensive but often had hidden benefits. If items were not in stock they often substituted an expensive alternative. For example I would order a dozen pork sausages but on occasions they would substitute an expensive special recipe version instead. Once I ordered a £6 bottle of Chianti Classico and they substituted a £15 bottle of a Borola. Cost did not seem to be a consideration when it reflected on service. Regular customers often got a complimentary product when things were close to best buy date.
May just have been my branch but they were excellent.Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.0 -
Waitrose is great - essentials range are competitively priced, some things will be dearer than the discounters, but to balance that out you have a nicer shopping experience - wide aisles, no music, well lit, courteous staff and plenty of them, free coffee and newspapers.
It does make me laugh that 'Waitrose Essentials' includes Halloumi and Blueberries ;-)0 -
Our 'local' Waitrose is unable to make up for the average (well top 20% nationally but below average for the town) nearby school and extra distance from the mainline train station when it comes to house prices.
However I am wondering if they might extend tubes onto the Abbey flyer line eventually which might help.I think....0 -
I live near a waitrose but would never even dream of buying their overpriced poor quality crap.0

I am pleased to live in an area that has Waitrose and Lidl, not to mention a small Sainsburys and an M&S food. And it certainly isn't just the poor who queue up for bargains in Lidl.
Increasingly I notice or hear that Waitrose and lidl are adjacent / nearly adjacent to each other. I think it suits many to buy somethings in ladle then go in to waitrose for what they cannot source in lidl or prefer to buy in waitrose. Eg, I prefer not to buy animal derived produce from lidl very often simply because I have no experience or research into where it comes from.....so while I hear the yoghurt is great etc, its not something I'd buy just yet. Very personally I also find the shopping there for big shops difficult because of the speed of the pack sometimes.
However, recently I bought a number of jars of things that are easier and much cheaper in lidl, bottled anti pasti. I then put them in my car and walked in to waitrose for cheese and some other stuff ( including some reduced things I wasn't planning on. The two combine well, each offering something the other didn't.0 -

Yes, I was in Portishead a couple of weeks ago, and they basically share the same car park.'In nature, there are neither rewards nor punishments - there are Consequences.'0
