Years ago your dad would've got his spade out of the shed.
Is that not allowed these days?
If it is, that's how paupers do it.
    One box, one spade.

We have an extensive pet cemetery already. OH and friends buried our first dog. A distressing experience for an already upset person to undertake. Large dogs and horses are cremated. Their ashes go on our footpath. Some may go in the woods. One day mine will be there too.

Many years ago I bribed a workman to leave his post digging a hole in the road, to dig a grave for a bunny rabbit, oh was abroad and I am not the build to dig heavy clay.

We have bifolds in the back of our through living room, and in the diner part of the kitchen diner. We've hardly used the ones in the living room - just been pretty rubbish summers, so we haven't been bothered about getting air flow through... Rather more about maintaining what solar gain we get so we don't freeze! :rotfl: The kitchen one is great though - the GrandTwins love to get out of them and up the steps into the back garden. Having the possibility of opening the space up completely is really useful when 2 small boys are both trying to get outside at the same time! :)

I think our next project will be getting the outside stuff better sorted - the "patio" at side of house is a mess - we ran out of money. So some of the cash from old home will prob go on that if we can find a decent firm to do it. New people next door but one she works for a landscape gardening firm, so will have a chat with her one of these days when I actually manage to get up and outa bed.

Our garden is good to sit in. Having comfortable furniture outside, and easy safe access has been a godsend whilst I was fatigued and/or unsteady, as it meant I could rest outside when the stairs were too much and I was fed up stuck indoors sleeping on sofas.

I suspect you will find this money well spent too.

We have a back door with a window in it. It replaced a stable door, made the change because I felt the stable door was insecure.

I mostly sit out in the front garden now. While I can get up the steps to the back garden I can't get down them on my own. We really need to put in at least one handrail. But the upside is lots of people say hello when they walk by (we have a nice little table and chairs in a sheltered corner of the garden over the summer) and we've got to know the neighbours much better. :)

But if we get the patio sorted with space for somewhere to sit it would be nice I think. I've toyed with the idea of a hot tub, but think it would be too much hassle to look after it for the little use we'd get from it. Now if we have the huge lottery win I might rethink that as we'd get someone in to do the maintenance! :rotfl:

Spirit, hugs and best wishes on hearing the news about your lovely dog. How sad.

I'm pleased to hear that there's possible progress with the house and the travelling.

Gen, good luck for your appointment - I'm guessing it's about now.

We appear to have lost about 100 posts since this time yesterday!

Is the new LHR runway due to be built on top of Waterside?

Why, have you just qualified for a parking space:p?

In all seriousness, if anything goes ahead it will be years off with all of the political wrangling. :p

Sooo... after procrastinating for Great Britain, this evening I phoned up the holiday company I've been looking at re Cuba.
Ideally want to go pretty soon as it seems to be recommended as the best time to go. Website was showing possibly places but when you clicked on the link it brought up a message saying to call them. Been doing that since the beginning of Jan.

Turns out they have one place on my first choice tour at the time I wanted. Eeeek. Wasn't prepared for that! Was expecting to just kick myself for not booking ages ago.

They're holding the place for me until end of the day tomorrow. My head is telling me it's not very sensible as it's a lot of money (and I should probably be spending on the house, starting to save for the works I want to do, paying the mortgage etc etc).
Kinda feels like it's meant to be though. And if I have to live off beans on toast for the next few months then so be it (or maybe I'll get a taste for rice and peas).
At least I have to make a decision imminently so I can't overthink it all much longer!

The house will always be there, the last place on the tour won't!
