Gen, your ANZAC quiz has got me thinking about Gallipoli. Last year, the Royal British Legion offered the opportunity to pay for a memorial for one of the soldiers who died in the war. My dad got someone who he wasn't related to, but had the same name as him. He was an ANZAC, from I think Broken Hill and died in the assault on Gallipoli. How scary must that have been to not only die, but to die somewhere so alien to everything you know?

Here's hoping we've learned the lessons of history and won't be putting vast swathes of our young through that again.
Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

Broken Hill was a pretty brutal place to live back then too. 50C days with no air con!!!

I've been trying to teach the Generalissimos that WW1 wasn't just about Gallipoli, even for the ANZACS.

About 20,000 men lost their lives at ANZAC Cove whilst 40,000+ died on the Western Front.

You get this constant bloody message here about Gallipoli. It's used to sell beer, food, gambling, sports (which are then used to sell beer and gambling), clothes, biscuits (not just ANZAC biscuits), wine, a supermarket, a music festival, rosemary scented candles (rosemary grew wild at ANZAC cove), lamb, rosemary. Gallipoli has been reduced to a marketing extravaganza and everyone loves it.

TV loves to celebrate Gallipoli and then in the ad break Victoria Bitter (a lager known as VB) encourages us to 'raise a glass'. Like with so much these days, the suffering is another opportunity for some company to sell their tawdry product with 10% of unaudited profits going 'to [nameless] charity'.

Thanks everyone for my birthday wishes.....got some very lovely dosh (£75) for my birthday, so I am off out today to buy some new clothes that are now quite desperately needed as everything is too blooming big for me!

I've already spent £12.50 of it on a hair trim.

Tonight, I am out to see two bands playing and hopefully getting a little squiffy with alcohol, the first I have had since New years eve!
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

Sadly, whilst we spend millions on biscuits, beer and footie today in Aus, the reality is that many Diggers (Aussie soldiers) return to this:

    http://www.canberratimes.com.au/federal-politics/political-news/homeless-diggers-reveal-australias-double-standards-20150424-1mpicz.html

We love the heroes. The people who come home and can't cope with their experiences and go on to become street drunks and junkies are vilified.

Rather than raising a glass, I suspect many soldiers that returned from Afghanistan will be raising a goon bag (a box of wine IIRC they are called in the UK and the drink of choice for the street drunk in Sydney) to drown their sorrows. Poor sods.

We have offered our little field to some neighbours for grazing. they have a paddock adjacent to the top of it and their grazing is wrecked after the winter.Yesterday they built a bridge of sleepers and post and rail across the ditch and today we have a grey spotted pony lazily cutting the grass. Saves us some work, helps them, as much manure as we want for veg patch and looks lovely. Very pleased.

10 is still quite little. Enjoy her whilst you await the delivery of hormones to create "the teenage daughter".
