But you're still getting electricity bills, right? So something is going through the meter?

I know it all seems a bit odd, I wonder if the guy who came today to fit the car charger could have been mistaken although he did say that there is no 'master switch' so they probably pulled the 'master fuse' even though only the electricity board is supposed to touch this. And then why wire it so the new fuse board is not off the meter as the benefit would be to me not the guy doing it who presumably puts his licence to do certified work at risk by doing so?

My understanding was that the guy who did most of the work was not certified so instead they got the certified guy to check it all over and sign it off (I hope this was OK, they told me it was normal) but now I am wondering if this bit is done completely wrong what else could also be wrong and potentially dangerous

I can recommend a very good firm of electricians in Barnet. NICEIC approved. Let me know if you need the details.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

So the old fuse box which basically powers the old part of the house is being metered but the new fuse box in the garage which powers the extension is not. At lunch time I tried switching off the old fuse box main switch and sure enough the meter did not move even though we had power on in the extension....

How about a good firm of criminal defense solicitors?

Currently I am trying to convince my supplier that it is their problem that I am stealing electricity from them as they seem to think it is National Grid....
    I think....

It's best not to involve National Grid, as they may simply disconnect you.

I would just get someone in to put it right ASAP.

Bypassing the earth as well as the meter?

Mum had a shower put in and I noticed that the taps on the bath gave you a funny tingle when I turned them on and off with my toe. Turned out the plumber had attached the earth on the shower to the bath taps rather than getting in a sparky to do it properly.

Lucky we had a plastic bath!

I personally wouldn't have anyone touch my electrics if they weren't qualified to sign it off themselves. Qualified and NICEIC is insured.

It was all included as part of the building works quote, I didn't know about the separate arrangements until a different guy turned up to sign off the electrics and then it became clear that the 'electrician' was not certified but given I had sign of from someone who was certified I assumed that was sufficient....

Not sure I can avoid UK Power Networks as apparently only they are able to replace the main fuse and as there is no isolator switch between the main fuse and the 'dodgy' connection to the switch for the new consumer unit presumably they would need to be involved in correcting of the wiring and fitting of a new switch?

I was gifted an 8'x6' poly carbonate 2nd hand green house. .free green house I thought , how mse. We then need someone to lay foundations and build a brickbase for it to stand on and a concrete path up the middle. Not a job for OH as he is running on empty at present OH has bought black membrane and pea shingle to make the beds either side of the path. So far my MSE green house has cost about £350.Still a bargain though and I am really looking frward to using it. I am going to grow tomatoes, cucumber and peppers in it, and bring on some other veg, before planting out.
