I find when they are promoting those TV 'life changing' quizzes where you can win 10k I am thinking if we got 10k it would make no difference to anything and really wouldn't notice.
The most joyful exuberant celebration I ever saw of someone winning a quiz was on one of these Dennis Norden compilation things.
Was it some kind of mega prize? Some life changing amount?
No.
It was a black woman in the USA who had won a brand new organ for her church.
It was refreshing to see.0 -
A relative won the lottery a fair while back. Not a direct relative so nothing trickled down this part of the family tree but it was quite nice to know that 'normal' people won it.
My mum forgot to do her numbers one week when she checked later, she realised that if she had done her normal numbers, she would have got 5 and the bonus.
10k to me would be a mammoth amount of money. I would be able to go into the supermarket and instead of keeping a mental tally of how much I had spent, I would be able to just chuck stuff in without thinking...the freedom to do that would be immense! We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -

Me too. Different family members liked different parts of it, so everybody could have what they wanted. Those who like it crispy had "corners". Those who liked part crispy and part soft and squidgy had "edges". I liked "middle".PasturesNew wrote: »South winds seem to make the most noise with the front door.
In my life ATM the wind is loudest when I am teaching in a particular lab at school. It's right at the top and the end of a high building, with very old and poorly fitting windows, and the wind really howls.Doozergirl wrote: »I've never been spat at. My children have never described being spat at.
If there is bullying it has to be dealt with by the management. If it isn't dealt with, and the school culture is such that bullying is able to breed and reporting to the teacher is not seen as absolutely the right thing to do, then I would remove my child. Any child that witnesses bullying should feel that the school culture promotes dealing with things correctly and that issues are dealt with when they are reported.
Teachers aren't fighting the battle for a child. Battles of that sort are not a child's to fight, they are the staff's responsibilty. Discipline falls within their remit.
It is unacceptable to hit anyone or teach your child that it is okay.
"Bound to be a target for bullies" has a dreadful sense of inevitability about it that I don't understand.
My kids have been to six schools between them and the culture in one was unacceptable to me and I moved DS after the first year. Not because he was bullied, but it was clear quite soon after he started that there were a couple of children that misbehaved, disrupted lessons and became an influence in the classroom. DS started to act like learning wasn't cool and it was clear that the leadership weren't managing those problems. That isn't a problem for my child to deal with, so I moved him as my priority is that he learns in a productive and safe environment and has strong boundaries set in the classroom.
DD has challenging children in her class and school but the teachers are different, the leadership is clearly strong and the children are closely managed in different ways. It doesn't affect her learning and I am impressed at the school's approach and actually think it's a good thing for her to understand that some people are challenging, but see the teachers setting the example of how to manage well.
What DG said. In spades. Wish I could thank it more than once.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -

This describes the difference that getting my compensation money for LNE's accident has made to me, along with being able to reduce my hours at work now that I don't have rent or mortgage to pay. Just as well about the hours, really, because I needed the decrease to begin to feel anything like coping.
My lifestyle doesn't look very different on the outside, but inside my head it's completely different. Every day I am grateful for it.
Oh, and I've sent some of the compensation money to a selection of good causes. That's been fun.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? I had a £30,000 windfall and it changed my life FWIW. My circumstances are quite particular though, not many people got cancer and arthritis in a single year I suspect.
I was thinking about increasing the prize for the 12 days of Xmas quiz by 50% next year but I'm concerned it will take the fun out of it.0 -

NOBODY SAID THERE WAS A PRIZE!!
On the other hand, I'd have not won it, so, with a prize being dangled I'd still not have taken the time
I'm not a quiz person.
The prize is £0.00.
It's just rained and rained and rained here for the past few days. It's rained so much that I had to let a load of (expensive) water out of the pool. On the other side of the country there are ferocious bush fires burning.
This summer is a right mess.0 -
Michaels: am I right in thinking you have experience with Now TV boxes?? (Question open to all though
)
Can the aforementioned Now TV boxes be used to watch the catch up services e.g. iPlayer, and what I always want to call 4player (4OD) without subscribing to anything? I suggested it for my mum, but she's returned it to the shop as she didn't want to subscribe...0 -
Hope HAMISH is alright. I hear the Dee has burst its banks in Aberdeen.
I suspect he's working on another Powerpoint and wondering why his feet feel wet and his whisky tastes weaker than usual.0 -

AIUI, it should allow access to iPlayer etc.
We got a Sony smart TV just before Xmas. It is excellent, really very good.0 -
Boo. Awake since 3:30 with horrible pain in my leg. I washed the dogs in the bath last night and hurt my back. Woken up and it's radiating down my leg with no let-up. Feels like growing pains.
Bath not helping and that always helps pain for me.
I'm so busy, I can't get to a chiropractor for 10 days.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.
