Is it illegal or immoral for an mp to have a relationship with a 17 year old?
It would be illegal if he was in a position of trust, eg a teacher, or possibly if she was particularly vulnerable, eg she had learning difficulties. Otherwise, it's legal.
Are you suggesting that every relationship where there's a large age gap is immoral?
Are lots of people playing the part of 'shocked of Godalming'?No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

I'm not shocked at all tbh. He can't be the first and won't be the last.
Even Hugh Hefner lied to his 24 year old bride about his age.
Her : "What?!! You're 84? You liar!! I thought you were 94 !"

I haven't read the details but it sounds both nasty and sad from what you say and the law actually does seem to cover this under 'position of trust'.
If he had employed her, he might've been in a position of trust. But he didn't, so wasn't.
So, as far as I can see, you're working yourself up into a frenzy of righteousness over something perfectly legal.
Mind you, if it had been my daughter, I'd have had words with the man. Probably, more than words. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

It doesn't ring a bell (or bells).
Are you suggesting I get them out and dust them for prints?
Big Cyril was many things, but stealthy operator he was not! I reckon I would have noticed.0 -

But when you read more than the headline you realise she wasn't after him, wasn't in a relationship with him, she simply asked if they had any jobs in his office - and he took that as an invitation to send a constant barrage of dirty/flirty texts. THAT is wrong.
She'd not texted him and said "Hey - you're hot!! Wanna hook up?" She'd contacted his office to enquire "Do you have any jobs?"
No, that's incorrect, at least according to the Express. 'The pair are believed to have sent explicit messages "back and forth" earlier this year via Twitter's direct messaging function.'
So, he didn't bombard her against her wishes (which would have been illegal under the Harassment Act), but they had a saucy conversation that she entered into the spirit of. I imagine that it progressed from Luke warm to hot, as they responded to each other.
Was it immoral? Yes, if she was innocent and naive. But that's not consistent with the conversation that seems to have ensued.
It was certainly unwise of him, because she was quite likely to kiss and tell, which is precisely what she did do. Except, they never kissed. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
Danczy : "Are you looking to further your options?"
17yo : "Why yes. Do you have a suitable position in mind?"
Danczy : "One or two come to mind..."
Y'see - it was all an innocent mistake. She thought they were discussing jobs / he thought it was Twister.0 -
I know just where you are coming from - normally I shop a weeks worth of meals and just have to decide what order to have them in but what with being off work and the bank holidays each day seems to need a plan and possibly some shopping plus having eaten so much of late it is hard to summon up the energy for food....
Exactly! Everything's got sort of muddled.
In the end we went to Sainsbury's up the road and bought a TTD lasagne and some garlic bread
Cooking can resume tomorrow.
PN I did think of pie, actually ! But what with mince pies and sausage rolls we've had quite a lot of pastry lately, and we've got a cheese and onion quiche tomorrow.
Generali We do actually like sprouts and carrots, which is why we bought them0 -

I can send you parsnips, turnips and sweet potatoes. All fresh, no wrinkles, but no plan to use them here.
Tomorrow we are making chinese type food. Accompanied by chinesey stuff from M&S. Apart from the raised pie and DD's birthday cake, that is all the cooking I am doing.
Aubergine tagine sounds good, will look for a recipe.
Just thought, it may be best to cook the lamb tagine tomorrow, to let flavours develop. Have 2 kg of lamb shoulder cubed and it will take a while to brown it all .0 -
Somehow the next 2 days have gone from being entertained elsewhere tomorrow to us entertaining for lunch two days in a row
Tax return not finished. Hoover not fixed either.
Did some lego with DS.I think....0 -
