It reminds me of the question about what's the most commonly-owned book (whose price almost nobody knows).

    I'm guessing telephone book.

It's the 'ownership' aspect which I feel unsure of.

Does the telephone company really own the book, just like the line?

    Can I add :-

Where can you find the longest river in the world?

A couple of questions back to you all:

    1. Which company is the biggest manufacturer of tyres in the world?
    2. Which company makes the most clothing items in the world?
In googling these I was a little alarmed to discover that Asda now sell more clothes that m&s
    I think....

Last weekend we were in the gift shop at the Top of the Rockefeller.

I spent some time scouring through all the gift items, looking for something which wasn't Made in China.

    I didn't really find much.

It left me thinking what are you really buying? Perhaps it would be better to throw away the cheapish photo frame / key ring / model of the Rock , and keep the authentic "printed in NY" receipt from the till ;)

That's the one. As far as I know they donate them to customers (in fact I think they just distribute them to all residents whether they're telephone service subscribers or not).

My source was admittedly Radio 5, and a comedian to boot.

I was just surprised that they only cost 22p per unit, and I think that price is landed too.

I'm hoping the anti-Capitalists wear iPhones as broaches next year, so we can see a flood of them cheap on the market ;)

I appreciate the irony, but I don't think that these masks are easy to pack. They crush easily, so they may need to be posted in quite a large cardboard box, which could well be more expensive than the mask itself. Possibly, more irony for you.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

I would say the Bible but am prepared to be wrong (and that's without consulting my new Guinness Book of Records!)
Sorry - should have read all posts above!

I wonder if travel agencies in China really need to sell holidays. As all the world's souvenirs gradually shift production to local Chinese factories perhaps it would be cheaper for people in China to buy a Total Recall style holiday where you turn up at the travel agency for the day, have a load of photoshopped photos taken of you on your "world tour" and you collect your itinerary and fake receipts on the way out.

Add a couple of local meals to try before you leave and there you go; a virtual holiday to impress the Joneses. :D

    It's interesting.

The advent of modern container shipping now means that it's the same cost to ship something from China to Newcastle docks by sea, as it is to ship from Newcastle to Manchester by rail.

BIL worked for a small firm running one of these teleshopping channel. As long as it can be boxed into oblongs we will be fine, was their comment.

Stacked masks should be fairly economic to ship.

Maybe one day we shall see a tag on an expensive gift in a Shanghai Tourist shop : "Made in UK".

    Then again, maybe not..

They do donate them, but you have to buy one if you want one for a particular area. Many libraries have/had a full set, but this is becoming less so given how easy it is to find the info on line. I think they are £10 each, which is bloomin expensive given how little info they now contain.
