Me too.
If I was on the move again, it'd have to be somewhere along the Black Coast.
The biggest question is which side, though :D💙💛 💔0 -
My washing machine is making a noise when it spins. Is that a cheap fix or should I buy a new one?
Can you be more specific? What sort of noise? High or low? Does its pitch change as the machine spins up or down? Scratching or rumbling? Have you checked the filter? Does it do it on every spin or only on some loads? Has it been getting worse?
We had a nasty rattling noise from ours. Tea tray stored near to the machine had slipped against it. That was a cheap fix.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
Depends how new it is. The bearings might be gone which can be very pricy to fix. But it may also be a bra underwire got caught and may be sticking into the drum (and be retrievable).
If you've an extended warranty it might be worth repairing. If its the bearings they might have to replace the whole drum which could cost a substantial fraction of the price of the machine and you might be better putting the money into a new one.Can you be more specific? Loud noise on the spin, rattling away. It's 10 years old, so no warranty. Also, the last wash produced black splatterings on the sheets that exactly matched the holes in the drum.

It sounds like your washing machine is, to use the technical term, knackered.0 -

10 years old - sounds like a museum piece. Even if it is a miele it is probably not worth getting fixed. Most modern machines you can't just replace the bearings so you have to replace the whole drum which costs more than a new machine.
Our fridge door stopped closing properly - looked online a new door was £403 plus delivery....luckily the small plastic bit that makes it close properly was 5.45 inc delivery and a 10 minute fix of which 5 minutes was getting all the stuff out of the door and giving it a really good clean while it was offI think....0 -
We replaced our Miele a couple of years ago. It was 16 years old, and apart from a leaking door seal it had performed faultlessly. When we had the door seal replaced, the engineer said it had done 16000 hours of use. A few years later, we replaced it when I estimated it had run past 20000 hours, purely as a precaution and because there was a particularly good deal on a replacement at the time.No reliance should be placed on the above! Our neighbour bought his house when it was built - in 1938.
...
When we first moved here there was a recluse who lived in the neighbouring house all his life ; 90 years.
When he went into a home, another neighbour moved into the house.
In the back garden there was a small hill towards the back of the garden. I guess we just assumed it was a hill, but it turns out that it was decades and decades of empty baked bean tins, grown over with grass :rotfl:
It turns out the recluse was a hoarder.0 -

Did the new neighbour discover this because he was an amateur metal detector and went to see if there was danegold in that there mound? Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? He discovered quite a lot. It was like completing the missing pieces in a jigsaw puzzle.
We had assumed the recluse intended half the windows to be bricked up, for example.
It turned out that the coaching house was built in the 1700s as servants quarters when the windows tax was in force. Servants were not deemed worthy of windows!
There was stained glass bought to be used in the mid 1930s. We know this because it was wrapped in newspaper describing turbulent events in Europe !
There were thousands of cobble stones buried in the garden. Hundreds of these just turned up in our garden one day..they must have been thrown over the hedge!
I miss the recluse, despite never ever seeing him!0
