We want diesel cars that drive like petrol cars, but we don't want the associated pollution. We want better economy and better emissions, year-on-year, so that is what our legislators decree must happen. However, I suspect it is not possible for car manufacturers to solve this engineering problem, or VW would not have fudged the tests. I find it hard to believe all the other manufacturers Have not done something similar.

The bankers will be pleased: At last! A scandal that has nothing to do with them.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

On DD going into halls she took a tin of quality street. How times change.

Josh also took home made chocolate cookies and brownies.....would have been banana cake too but we ran out of time (and eggs).
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

Is there anyone, at least in Europe, who hasn't understood that the quoted emission and mpg data are laboratory condition best case not real world expectations. Having said that if it turned out that cars had specific engine management software that detects mot tests and runs only low emissions for that special circumstances as was done in the us then that would not be acceptable. Presumably there must be a reason why that mode is not used all the time, reduced performance, increased consumption and reduced engine longevity?

Economically the question must be does the benefit in mobility we get from cars justify the costs of pollution?
    I think....

Diesel cars were doomed the minute OH bought his first one, before that his last car just sneaked into the highest emission band.

Nah, we don't care what people think of us. We have our money to keep us warm at night.

There was a great article in the Macro Man blog that some might find to be of interest comparing bankers to VW:

It had a very handy table:

Oh happy to translate BTW. Macro Man is very good but he loves a nice bit of jargonising.

SPX is the US stock market, VIX is a measure of volatility of the SPX, a 'wedge' is a shape of a graph that can denote (to people that think the shape of a graph can predict future share prices) a fall or a rise in share prices(!).

I've no idea what sort mine is! How do you know?

If you have the biometric sign under 'passport' and all that gobbledegook on the bottom of the photo page, you have an 'e-passport'.

So Autumn has arrived, here in Luxembourg the calendar says so but who will notice a difference?
For me I have decided to change over my Summer wardrobe to Winter. The biggest reason is I am leaving for England tomorrow for 10 days and don't want to be caught wearing short sleeve shirts if the weather turns cold.
So it's out with the shorts and beige long trousers and in with the jeans and corduroys.
It will be great to be back for a few days. I was last here picking my daughter up from Uni at the end of May.
There will be no Brexit dividend for Britain.

Lunch today was 5 frikadellen meatballs (Lidl, pack of 20) .... and some instant mash. Meatballs nuked for 2 minutes and a splash of hoisin sauce added (because it's a jar I've had/open for over a year and I really need to crack on and use it up.

Had the same for tea last night, but I had a squeeze of Heinz curry sauce with that :)

    Instant mash? No noms there.

So, in other words you had Chinese meatballs for Lunch and Indian Meatballs last night. Like Gen I think you might have failed Masterchef by using Instant mash as an accompaniment ;) However, I will award you a couple of extra points for using some meatballs who's name I couldn't pronounce without inadvertently spitting on somebody.:)
