Steady on there PN - you've been rather extravagant today!
My lunch cost 28p and my dinner 23p
Yesterdays lunch was free to me as a friend took me out to Wagama.
Dinner last night was made mostly from things I would have thrown out tonight as I cleared the fridge for tomorrow's shopping.
I made a tortilla with potatoes, onions, tomatoes, red pepper and 6 eggs, to accompany a Bean and chorizo casserole.
DD took the left overs to her bf for his dinner this evening. He has phoned to say how good it was.
OH is away, he has gone to Bermuda, back Saturday and off to St Petersburg on Monday. His absence means I can take the tagine out of the freezer for dinner. he was looking doubtful about eating it so it has sat in the freezer for a few weeks..
Mr Spirit on looking at a labelled container in the freezer " your handwriting is getting better, this clearly says tagine, but the word above is indecipherable . It looks like Goat:eek:what is it?"
Me "Goat"
Mr Spirit "Oh"0 -
Mmm, tagine
Glad to hear about your successful shopping trip Spirit. 3 coats :j:j:j
I remember a friend who wears varifocals telling me (just before I got mine) that something she found unexpectedly difficult was shopping in supermarkets when you couldn't get the right lens angle for your eyes to look through at the lowest shelf tickets. It involved significant grovelling on the floor to get your head at the right angle!0 -
Tonight the boys are not pleased with their father.....first they find out that he is coming down to the area this weekend but no plans to see them and then Josh asks for help towards uni stuff and he is quibbling over the price of a blooming text book.
Including deposit fees for halls, transport backwards and forwards for sorting out his support, auditions/interviews at other universities plus all the equipment needed for setting up in halls, I have paid over £600 (probably over £700, I stopped counting), then on top, there is James' extra stuff that he needed for going back...yet he is being awkward over a £27 bloody book!
I think he thinks the maintenance should cover it.....not sure how far £11.66 a week per child is really supposed to go!
He always acts so proud that two of his boys are at university and will take the credit for how they have turned out but really, that is as far as it goes. It is not down to him that they are there, he has given sod all bloody support.
Grrrrr....sorry but as he has peed the boys off, it has in turn, peed me off!We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.

Peed off sounds A perfectly normal reaction. If anything it is a bit calm and grown up. £11.66 ... why so little?0 -
A £2 loan to start a business??? That doesn't seem an awful lot. When was this? It would be interesting to compare with average wages at the time.
The handy thing about the Gold Standard and the Silver Standard is that prices were basically flat from about 1600 to 1930. Up and down by 20% here and there but basically flat.
We know from songs that sixpence was a reasonable amount of money (sing a song of sixpence a pocket full of rye) and a ha'penny was not much money (if you haven't got a penny then a ha'penny will do and if you haven't got a ha'penny then God bless you). A loaf of bread was a penny and a poor person having a bad day would have eaten that with a little butter or fat in a day.
IIRC then a labourer made a quid a week and a skilled worker perhaps double that. Jane Austin tells us that £2,000 a year was a high income.
So a two quid loan would be perhaps £500 or maybe £1,000 at the absolute maximum today as a guesstimate. If you think about it that would buy you a crap car or van so could set you up as a dodgy London minicab, window cleaner or garden help (weeding and lawnmowing).0 -
That is our private agreement...it hasn't changed for several years. It's not through the CSA as he threatend to give up his job if it went via that and any request for an increase is met with anger.
Initially, it was in line with what the CSA was saying should be paid (minimum wage back in 2007) but obviously over the years with pay increases etc, it now lags behind what it should be.We made it! I know the purse finding widow was earning 14/6 a week in 1916.
I'd imagine £2 would get you a cart and a knobbly horse.
That period I think was also during a pretty disastrous period of depression in the economy. There would be plenty of people looking for funds and very few funds available to support them.
It followed a banking crisis natch.0 -
Without wishing to speak for SingleSue I am going to do so anyway. I suspect it's because he's a colossal loser.

It should have been increased each year, but I understand the situation you're in.
Sue, I'll happily give you the £27 if it's going to cause an argument💙💛 💔0 -
Aww thanks CK but it really is our responsibility to provide for the children, so thankyou for the offer but we will be ok.....plus right now, I am in the perfect mood for an argument to try to force him to realise that being a parent is much more involved than seeing the children once or twice a year for a couple of hours to be able to receive the compliments on how well they have turned out.We made it!
