For glasses, Asda opticians. Yes, the range of specs isn't as exciting or extensive but they are so much cheaper than elsewhere. Even with thinner lenses as I need.0

My eyes are extremely screwy, both very different, both astigmatic and one lazy. I don't like big frames as then the edges get very thick (but will have to have bigger ones when I get varifocals. The problem is that below 18 inches (and increasing) they will no longer refocus that close so I have to hold my phone further than that when small stuff gets extremely small. Because they are so screwy I am nervous about the 10x cheaper on line option, not because I don't think they are just as good but because I think with my prescription they need to be fitted pretty carefully. If my eyes had been suitable for lasering I would have jumped at it. Contact lenses have never seemed worth the hassle (or especially the cost). Even if a £150 pair of glasses only lasts 3 years it is still an order of magnitude cheaper than £40 per month for contact lenses.I think....0

One side effect of ageing eyes is that there's a delay between focussing on near and far objects. Not sure there's a laser surgical answer to that.
Does anyone know whether laser eye surgery leaves you safe to drive at night? I read something about this once but never found the scale of it (the only people I've met who've had it aren't drivers). There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
I'm in bed in a £3.5 million house and someone is banging in the house next door.
Just figured out that this room has two adjoining neighbours.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

One's surgery was more successful than the other but both seem fine with it.0 -

If you looked into it with your usual money saving brain in gear, you wouldn't be looking at anything like that sort of price.
I have lenses through the contact lens by post scheme, that was D&A and is now Boots. I'm on the low user scheme, so can get 30 lens x2 (eyes) every 3 months for £15 a month. But anytime you have built up a supply and don't require the re-order you can cancel the order for upto 6 months. I wear them infrequently so usually cancel for 6 months at a time. End up paying £15 3 times a year = £45. In return I get free consultations, 50% discount on glasses and 10% of any boots own brand product. I probably save more than I spend on lenses.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
