Watching footage of the fire on the BA plane on the news. I can't believe that people waste time retrieving baggage and bring it down the chutes with them, also that they stand around videoing the fire!

I didn't know either of my grandads, one had died just before I was born and the other died shortly after.

James knew his paternal grandad but unfortunately, he died when Josh was 6 weeks old. They of course know their maternal grandad and it has been wonderful to see them have a relationship that I never got to experience.

They did have another grandad that all got to know a little, their father's long lost real dad (they reconnected after 40 years - long story involving a teenage love affair and both being forced apart, him to the services and a different country, she to be kept under lock and key at her parent's and then married off young to a 'suitable' person who then beat her up). The boys met him twice and started to form a relationship but that was as far as it got as the marriage break up impacted on things especially as he no longer lived in this country.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

Sounds like a tenner well spent PN!

Had an interesting day at work today trying to work out how much electricity different companies use and how much carbon is produced making that electricity. It's not trivial to work out.

Probably not the time to tell you mine never showed any sign of wanting to put in an appearance and both had to be induced. Labour was relatively normal apart from that.

There is some sort of externality thing as economists would say - me grabbing my bag probably only has a tiny impact on my likelihood of surviving but everybody on the plane doing so almost certainly sharply reduces everyone's odds. Presumably they should all have stopped to do a game theory model first....

I wanted to know whether my solar panels were carbon negative and if so by how much over their projected lifetime output, there are a few google answers out there but you get into questions like do you include the carbon involved in the cups of tea drunk by the installers...best guess seemed to be the first 5 years would cover the manufacture and installation and the next 15 years would be saving carbon but then of course there is decomissioning/disposal and whether a 20 year lifespan is realistic (either way)
    I think....

Your calculation is basically impossible as there are other unmeasurables too. For example, by buying solar panels today you are:

    1. Increasing current returns to solar panel makers and installers and thus encouraging investment
    2. Not buying the more efficient solar panels that will be sold in 2 or 5 or 10 years time.

What is annoying me at the moment is that TEPCO don't announce their CO2-e[quivalent] emissions.

Perhaps with half their radio-nuclides spread across the bottom of the Pacific they are not sure how much heat they are generating (carbon free)....

Funnily enough I just found this!

    http://www.tepco.co.jp/en/corpinfo/illustrated/environment/emissions-co2-e.html

    Case solved!

Now just another 500 or so gaps to fill and then perhaps 250 serious inconsistencies to explain and I'm home and hosed. This gets presented to the board before the end of September and I've got a week off booked.
