At the weekend i bought OH a new( to him) gun. He is thrilled. He was expecting to buy a cheaper spanish gun but I wanted to treat him as a gesture to mark what has been a very hard year for him and he has been selfless and stoic.
If anyone knows about these things it is a holland and holland side by side shotgun. Made circa 1930. The case that comes with it is lovely too.
:T
Wow... I'm not often speechless but that did it.
If you're ever considering starting a business to keep you entertained in retirement, can I suggest you open a 'Spouse Training School'...“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.

DS emailed me:

Very funny. :rotfl:
They just found this sucker a few hours south of Sydney:
http://www.abc.net.au/news/2015-09-08/potentially-new-funnel-web-spider-species-found-near-jervis-bay/6758552
It's a tree dwelling funnel web that builds a 2 meter long web! Oh, and the salt water crocs (salties) have started eating people fishing from boats, they only used to eat people on the river bank or in tinnies.0 -

Oh yes. As the world's greatest newspaper puts it:
http://www.ntnews.com.au/news/national/inquest-into-nt-croc-deaths-begins/story-fnjbnvyj-1227516066996THE last thing Thi Ban Le heard her husband say was "oh my God, I'm dead".
LANH Van Tran was seized by a well known 4.6-metre albino saltwater crocodile called Michael Jackson when he waded into the Adelaide River in August last year to free a snagged fishing line.
The 57-year-old's death is being investigated by an inquest into the killing of two fishermen in Top End waters between June and August last year. Mr Tran, a farmer, had taken up fishing enthusiastically in the year he lived in the Northern Territory and liked to go out with his wife along the Adelaide River, home to thousands of crocodiles. Ms Le said they hadn't seen any that day and thought it was safe to fish. As they were leaving her husband waded into the water to unhitch a snagged line. "I was packing up the car when I heard him shout, `oh my god, I'm dead', and I turned around and I saw the crocodile's tail; it swung very high in the air," she told the Darwin Coroners Court on Monday.
The family of Darwin man Bill Scott, 62, also described how he was snatched from his tinnie while on a billabong in Kakadu National Park last June. The court heard it was the first instance of a person being taken from a boat, but unlikely to be the last. Mr Scott, an experienced fisherman and bushman, had been filling a bucket of water when he was taken. "I saw a huge set of jaws on his shoulder, right down to his chest, and I thought, that's a huge croc," his daughter-in-law Joanne told the court. "It happened in seconds; he was gone, and there was not a thing we could do." Coroner Greg Cavanagh, who sat in the courtroom flanked by the skulls of both crocodiles, which were shot by rangers after the attacks, said he had become increasingly concerned about the dangers posed by the reptiles. "I wanted to put it out there publicly in people's faces that we've got to learn to live with man-eating animals," he said.
Crocodiles were hunted to near extinction in the NT after the Second World War, with only about 3000 left in the wild in 1971 when they became a protected species. There are now about 100,000 crocodiles, or one for every two Territorians. Ranger Gary Lindner told the court the more he learnt what crocodiles were capable of, the more alarmed he became. With more feral horses, pigs, cattle and wild dogs roaming near waterways, he said crocodiles had become adept at snatching larger prey, and were less fearful of humans. "The only thing that seems immune is water buffalo; its skin is like a sinewy matrix, whereas horses, cattle, pigs, (their skin) just rips like paper," Mr Lindner said. He said a minority of hardcore NT fishermen were not heeding the danger warnings. "A lot of local fishermen think, she'll be right; there's periods of high alert but six months later people will relax again," he said.
The NT News is well worth a read for its tales of a population well below a quarter million doing daily battle with the elements in an area of land about the size of cold war western Europe. It's a seriously mad place. They are doing an experiment of getting rid of speed limits......on some unpaved roads!!!0 -
It's just before 10 on Tuesday my normal gardening day. Going to mow the lawn for the first time after my holiday. Not too bad as someone came and did it a couple of times while we were away.
We now have help in the garden. He has made a really goodjob of mowing the lawn, so much so that it looks worth sprucing up so i have just booked GREENTHUMB to asess and treat it.0 -
Picking up the new car next Tuesday! We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -
Picking up the new car next Tuesday!
Excellent.
I had a medical assessment this morning and I am fit to drive..
This means I can reapply for my licence and have a driving assessment to determine what adaptations I will need.Oh and then I need to buy a car. So I think it will be a couple of months until I am on the road but it will make such a difference.0 -

I guess it might be possible to find a second hand car with the appropriate modifications already made rather than having to wait for one to be converted as a temporary measure to get you back on the road asap?I think....0 -

We were in discussions about an Austin Healey. Ideally a pale blue and cream two tone.
OH prefers a horrible Triumph TR5.( can you guess my opinion of it.)
So I hit on the gun as a distraction.0
