Another one who had couscous this evening. I do it by adding not enough boiling water, leaving to stay d for a couple of minutes then adding more boiling water and serving so it is nice and hot. Tend to eat it with stews or casseroles so it is not too dry. We probably have it every two weeks as an alternative carb to spuds, rice, pasta or bread. Fairly bland but I can't see what's not to like. Can't remember er when we first had it.
It's not hideous. it's just a "nothing" food. Like eating a description of food and not written on ricepaper either.Still got that achey temperature feel which .means I am going to toss and turn tonight
My non-rational self-mediated therapy for a temperature is a fiercely hot curry. yes, i know it's homeopathy, but, hey, any excuse to eat a curry.;)There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -

That's kinda the point. It acts as a really good carrier of other flavours, for example I sometimes make it with mint and chopped apricots to have with slow roast lamb.My non-rational self-mediated therapy for a temperature is a fiercely hot curry. yes, i know it's homeopathy, but, hey, any excuse to eat a curry.;)
Wrong quack cure Zag. Homeopathy is the one where the less of something by watering it down you have the more potent it becomes, a point easily disproved by cordial or gin (or more seriously by the obvious point that tap water isn't 'pure' water so would presumably be having a whole host of homeopathic effects or even more seriously by the fact that homeopathy is simply anti-science and hokum).
Curry is probably something like herbalism which probably works to some extent, I cite cannabis, magic mushrooms and opium as naturally occurring things that have an obvious pharmaceutical effect.0 -

I was thinking of the homeopathic principle of how "like cures like" rather than the totally freaky dilution nonsense that contradicts the particle theory of matter.
Herbalism is a rich source of medical knowledge. If you go back, the three drugs that worked in 1850 were
rhubarb for constipation
Opium for diarrhoea
And J Collis Brown’s Chlorodyne containing morphine ether cannabis and treacle. Pretty much made you feel better no matter what was wrong with you, which was usually untreatable unless it involved how often you needed to buy toilet roll. There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
I first ate it when visiting some fellow students from Brazil. They made pickled cabbage on couscous followed by tea drunk with a metal straw from a pot filled with leaves so the film of liquid was stronger than anything I've ever tried before or since.
Realised there are very few Brazilian restaurants (except possibly in Brazil) and not sure I've identified their USP.
There's a Portuguese restaurant in my town, and the food/atmosphere is absolutely lovely.
It's been through several sets of management in the last few years, and the latest guys are absolutely brilliant. 4 minutes walk from home, too, which is really tempting when I'm not at work.💙💛 💔0 -
Ah yes, Brazilian restaurants.
There used to be an amazing one on Highgate Hill. Very well priced, allowed BYO with very reasonable corkage, did a really good baked fish thing with a spicy, herby, acidic sauce (think lemon rather than hydrochloric).
Did a very good rice and veg thing too.
SBS, basically like Channel 4 was in the 1980s with more foreign language programming, did a series on Brazilian food during the 2014 World Cup, handily coinciding with my cancer treatment.

No idea if SBS will let you do a 'watch again' from the UK. ITV/BBC won't let me use i-Player or whatever. I always feel quite annoyed as I was about the only student I knew that paid for a TV licence and so feel I should get a bye on watching from abroad. I can't even listen to the sports commentary on Radio 5. <<just slightly crosser than it is entirely rational to be smilie>>
Am now fretting about Tuesday. I was expecting to get a letter and a bunch of scans which I could open and it would say, 'Congratulations on your new cancer Mr Generali' or, 'We're sorry to have to tell you that you don't get to have radio/chemo/horriblo-therapy this summer Mr Generali'.
Oh well, there's nothing I can do about it except whinge on here and drink another cuppa tea.
The Girl was really ill last night. She had a fever and all the symptoms of a horrible cold but has a real thing about taking medicine of any sort. By taking off most of her clothes and sitting in a draught she convinced us that her fever was abating so we put her in our bed and I slept next to her with Mrs Generali taking her bed. The Girl woke up delirious at 10pm and was unable to speak much and was thrashing her arms and legs around (with frustration at being unable to speak I think). We calmed her down and forced her to take medicine (by talking not holding her down which is an improvement on what has happened before).
She eventually went to sleep but kept having little kicking things in the night. I used to get the same thing when I was a kid. It's really unpleasant as it goes. Poor kid. She seems fine this morning.0 -
And I thought you were a NP, calling me rude and little?!
If you got a flyer saying 'Half Price Blazer if you spend over £150' how much would you think you needed to spend to get a half price blazer?
Actually, I'm not quite sure. Say the offer had been that you get a free gift if you spend over £150, that would be clearer.
Waitrose do an offer that you get free coffee and a free newspaper if you spend over £5. I have never assumed that the coffee and newspaper are included in that £5 spend.
So, it's ambiguous, but the odious little man at Beats may have a point. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
I like couscous. Not over cooked and served with a spicy sauce. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0

So, I've just been charged 36p for a bag....Disguised half way down the receipt as a 'green tax'
How very interesting.....
If anyone can be bothered to translate what I've bought, most of it is for work....💙💛 💔0 -
When I talked about being introduced to Cous Cous I actually meant the North African dish. (Third most popular dish in France).
We often have as a side "vegetable" the grains of Cous Cous heated up by pouring hot water over.
As ever Wikepedia has all the info
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cous_CousThere will be no Brexit dividend for Britain.0 -

Too easy:
Reds (as opposed to whites or blues)
Cat's nest flavoured gum
Miaow flavoured sauce
Plastic bag (as you claim although I note there is no link, I reckon it's a own brand jazz mag)
B@rstard nose
Pair (deo) of assorted roller skates
Monkey perfume
A basic Peruvian turkey (dinde is turkey in French)
Ask a harder one0
