It's a very short walk!
Near there is one of my favourite pubs, the Viaduct Tavern. If you ask at the bar they'll show you the cellar. It's made from the cells of the old Newgate Prison. Gaol has certainly gotten a lot softer!
If you go there, remember that there were no toilets but the upper cells did have a hole in the floor which connected to the next cell down.
I take it there are toilets now!!?Spend less now, work less later.0 -

There are. It's a very nice pub considering it's full of City-types.
The only pub I can think of offhand that has (or had) no toilets was The Pub With No Loo at London Bridge. No idea what its real name is (or was) but it was an absolute dump. Me and a mate used to go in occasionally, basically to laugh at the people in there.
Still, even that isn't as bad as The Railway opposite Liverpool Street. That's The Worst Pub in the City. You get people begging at the bar!0 -
The Poms are kicking some Australian bottom in the cricket. HA!
It's in the bag. Nothing can possibly wrong now.0 -
Back from Serbia on Friday, and working a really weird hours until the beginning of August, before we're off home for 2 weeks, which may be extended depending on whether the office needs me.
Booked 2 sets of tickets back with Turkish with the intention of getting a refund on one of them (the additional cost of doing this was only about £7)
Should I feel guilty for leaving the office for possibly 4 weeks when we're starting 4 new projects in September?💙💛 💔0 -
chewmylegoff wrote: »There is actually an ongoing case at the moment where the City Police have announced charges (the facts of which have been aired through the high court as a result of a connected civil action) but that involves money that a Russian employee working for the UK bit of a Russian bank nicked from the bank (and used in part to buy properties) rather than proceeds of crime originating from inside Russia. Google urumov + fraud if interested.
It's VERY unlikely they'll be extradited.
However, the Russian taxpayer will have lost money here (due to the ownership of the bank involved), so what will actually happen, I don't know.
I've heard a lot of whispers, but nothing concrete.💙💛 💔0 -

Didn't realise that and assumed from the post they are in Russia.
The rest of the post stands, though.💙💛 💔0 -
WE have two Swiss students staying. I said I had been surprised to see Marina Hingis playing tennis at Wimbledon last night. They said 'who?' - they are only 16 bless.I think....0
