Question. If you'd had a boss like sadistic boss how much would you price your silence on your relationship with him for?

Would need to know more about the context of the question. Am I being asked to deceive people who are reasonably asking me what he was like, or merely to refrain from proactively reporting what happened? Does agreeing to stay silent compromise my integrity in any way? Who is proposing to pay this price, and what kind of price is it - financial, career advancement, or other? If it's material, where's it coming from, and who's making that decision? Is there any realistic probability that any good would come of my not staying silent? Or would speaking out most likely just create trouble for me and accomplish nothing?
Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.
    :)

The more I think about it, the more I think I'd turn it down, whether I intended to say anything or not. It wouldn't smell right to me. It would feel like he was persuading me to blackmail him. But I have no experience of the way things are done in that world, of course.

ETA This post was based on a misunderstanding. I thought sadistic boss himself was offering to pay fir to keep quiet. I have now discovered (having read posts on the next page) that it is the firm who are proposing to compensate fir for what he has been through, and would like him not to make a song and dance about it. That's not blackmail. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

I must be doing something wrong, I find I am the one who has to pay if I want to experience punishment from a sadistic boss....

I think I would personally feel happier turning down the "kind offer".
If anyone asks then obviously fir wouldn't tell any lies in answer.

    Lots and lots ;)

ETA Actually I think Lydia's reply is much better than mine. I was being tongue-in-cheek.

And if asked to open with a price or term...say based on your salary or notice period or some such?

Assuming I hadn't been the one to initiate the discussion I would leave it to them to say what they thought was reasonable. Presuming it is the other side who actually cares about this let them do all the running.
