Well after a decade of flawless service and near perfect mechanical reliability with only minor things ever going wrong, (until now), it looks like we're going to have to get rid of Mrs McT's car as I can't justify spending considerably more than the car is worth on repairs.
Bit of a bu99er really, had hoped it would last until the onset of the big trip....
Now need to figure out if it's worth buying another one or do I convince her to just drive 'the beast' when it arrives (and deal with a year or so of moaning and likely a few minor parking dings).
Grrrr..... Will go car shopping today and see whats out there.“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.

Presumably The Beast will go through a fair bit of fuel. Worth taking into consideration.
As for parking scrapes? Meh.0 -

It's not The Beast I'm worried about....:D“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.

Should have told me earlier. I had a model which would have given you no worries at all regarding minor (or even major) parking dings. See above.0 -

I think there are some cars you get emotionally attached to, we'll definitely be sad to see Mrs McT's get scrapped.“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.

I cried when took my first Motability car back to exchange for new one. I think it was because it had seen me through a very traumatic time over the 3 year lease, and I don't know how we'd have coped without it. Took my parents out for a drive in it when it was new, by the end of the lease we had seen them in and out of hospital, into nursing homes, and then two funerals withing just over 6 weeks. Oh, and cleared their flat using it too! Really did feel like an old friend!0 -
This morning on BBC brekky it was about 'The Clangers' returning to the TV screen.
It's definitely going to be a big hit with westie, all that whistling gets him very excited.

Yes, you're right of course, Lydia - especially as exchange trips usually involve being placed with a family whose language you don't fully understand.....
I've just been contemplating the birds we get visiting our new garden here in a village on the edge of a larger conurbation in the West Midlands......so far we've seen/heard blue tits, great tits, thrush, robins, bullfinch, blackbirds, owls, ducks, geese, pigeons (obviously!) and heron - the latter of which we've seen a few times visiting a neighbouring property's pond that is fed directly from our own much larger pond (via a Victorian underground pipe system) which in turn is fed by an underwater spring. One evening we actually saw him fly across our garden and land in one of our treetops
Back in Wiltshire where we lived previously we often had a pheasant in the garden which surprised our dogs and occasionally saw a kingfisher by the stream that ran through the bottom of our garden.....not seen one of those here
Feeling lethargic today....think it's the thought of having to fill out the probate documentation for my late mum......Mortgage-free for fourteen years!
