Thanks! In fact maggie and others were sounding boards in my design process.. When planting is better it will look better still .
. Being in the space is of course different. I need to paint the back ground board, that sticks out like a sore thumb still I think you can see in that picture, it really pulls that side of the garden visually 'forward' being unpainted. But I'll get done some time.

Not really, £1 each way,but OH reckons I'll get around £33 back... So at least it's paid for our bets! We are so close to Aintree, but doubt I'll ever make it to the actual race in real life. So we get a bottle of fizz, and I sub the pair of us £20 for betting. We tend to do 5 £1 each way bets each - gives you a good spread. Makes it all a bit of an event for us.
Last year we didn't win anything. Very disappointing! :rotfl: So was due a decent win this year!
It's just a bit of fun and something we do each year (even the years we've been at the caravan!) for about the last 10 years at a guess.

Hope you enjoyed the wedding and have a fab birthday.0 -
I thought it's very noisy? The machine has huge magnets that get switched on and off rapidly. Every time the current goes on the magnetic coil stretches, and when the current is switched off it contracts again. Hence a very loud hum. If you fell asleep, you must have been remarkably relaxed.
Edit: the noise is reported to be as high as 125dB, like a rock concert. What sort of ear protection did they give you?
On the one at Addenbrookes, you can take your iPhone and they'll play you music
I didn't find it that noisy, but that's just my opinion.💙💛 💔0 -

We have moorings for Ruddy Duck off the SCYC clubhouse the last few years. The other day OH had a letter from the small firm that lays the moorings there.
Letter about charges from The Crown Marine Estates by ukmaggie45, on Flickr
Here's what he's written back to the small firm concerned.
=============>>>
Dear xxxxxx
I share your sense of outrage at the decision by Crown Marine Estates to impose an annual £52 levy on every mooring laid on 'HM the Queen's land in Abersoch Bay and surrounding seabed area'.
I used to think the Monarchy were picturesque, good for tourism, and mainly harmless. I have now become a republican.
Unfortunately, given the fact that I will turn 70 this year, I am unlikely to survive to see the back of them; and since I wish to continue sailing my cheque to you will be in the post!
We expect to have Ruddy Duck ready to launch by early to mid July, and keep her in the water until end of August, so if you could lay the mooring by early July that will suit us. Ideally, we would like - if possible - to be in or near the main Seabird group; it increases the chances of getting into the same launch as your fellow competitors after a race.
Regards

Plus he's since written this, snail mail to The Crown Estates...

Up till now I regarded the Monarchy as mainly hard-working, mainly harmless, picturesque and good for tourism. My main objection to them was that they sit at the apex of a hopelessly compromised ‘honours’ system which can sometimes reward repulsive, rapacious and downright evil people.
Today I received a letter stating that Abersoch Moorings Ltd will be prevented by Crown Marine Estates from laying my mooring this year until I have paid you a levy of £52.
Our little wooden sailing boat is an heirloom which has been in the family since 1950. It is not a million-pound gin-palace owned by some dodgy oligarch. I don’t even have a passport since I can’t afford foreign holidays and the upkeep of a boat. I can understand Her Majesty feeling a bit miffed that she only has a rowing boat now but this new imposition is outrageous.
I recall the words of the Welsh band Catatonia, singing about Buckingham Palace: “Turn it into a bar; let THEM all work in Spar”.
I had already decided to join the Green Party, but the abolition of the monarchy was not high on my wish list. It is now.

Do you think we will get done for treason and lose our heads? :eek:0 -

Not according to the treason act 1351:Declaration what Offences shall be adjudged Treason. Compassing the Death of the King, Queen, or their eldest Son; violating the Queen, or the King’s eldest Daughter unmarried, or his eldest Son’s Wife; levying War; adhering to the King’s Enemies; killing the Chancellor, Treasurer, or Judges in Execution of their Duty.
"Adhering to the King's enemies" appears from the small print to mean joining or helping people who are fighting a war against the monarch or the country, so I don't think you qualify.
Sorry to hear what's happened though.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
I know some nice people know more about both insurance and jewellery than I do. I have recently inherited, much to my surprise, a couple of pieces of jewellery, I expect the most valuable to have a worth of around one thousand if that. ( by looking at other second hand equivalents online ). They are not for sale. Presumably the low value means they can be covered by my household insurance? At that sort of price point do I need to get them valued or is photo and adding to my own inventory sufficient? I also have my mother's wedding rings, So I guess I should have those appraised and itemised as well? And I don't know what some things of mine are worth. Some gold bits and bobs, and some other things. Is coral worth anything other than when new for example?
How much does getting things valued cost? Is it 'worth' it for such low value items to be insured properly?0
