DVD drive on laptop has recently been prone to freezing every once in a while, but it's now doing it so often as to make DVDs unwatchable. I tried ejecting the thing that the DVD goes into and attempting to remove dust from the little lens, which has got me back from "won't play at all" to "freezes so often it's not worth watching". Any advice as to what to do next, please?
Replace the drive? For many laptops it's pretty easy to do and the drives are not all that expensive http://www.ebay.co.uk/bhp/internal-laptop-dvd-drive
You could try a cleaning disc http://www.amazon.co.uk/Hama-DVD-ROM-Laser-Cleaning-Disc/dp/B00005UPDF although it seems expensive considering that there's no guarantee it will work.
Or get an external drive? No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
I liked the monkey gag. A new one on me.
Day 2 of no codeine and no ill effects so far. Stomach seems to have chilled out a bit which is nice.
I finally got paid at 10pm yesterday so I can pay for the MRI. It's great that we can get tests pretty much on demand (called Tuesday for a Thursday appointment on the scanner). $300 a pop is a bit much though.
Bear in mind that this is nice to have not must have for me and the doctor. If it was must have (e.g. required for sugery) I'd get it free. No idea what the wait would be and I guess that waits for cancer surgery aren't representative of all waiting times.0 -

Which leads me to an IT question.
Anyone know if there is such thing as a Bluetooth connected external drive my ipad could read DVDs from? And.....er....dirt cheap?0 -

Very cool, thank you.
I would have to use this within wi if zone (of house) presumably?
I could not trudge down to the oak trees to do exercise videos or watch girly films?0 -

I would not bother again with the one with the body brush ( which would take down the price ). I NEVER use this. ( though maybe I will try as a summer resolution?), I find it less satisfying than a good scruband I just use the face brush on d!collet!.
Also, some skin seems to really hate it, reading reviews. I don't know how much the really cheap high st ones are, but it might be worth trialling with one?
I find how often I use it changes. Sometimes its 2x day, sometimes once, sometimes even less, but it like minimum of once. I listen to my skin.
I'm in a slightly awkward moment right now as the moisturiser I love and trust since getting the rosacea I am finding a bit too heavy, but I'm nervous to try a lighter one......any other one, because of my sensitive skin, I need to sort that out quite soon. Its incredible to have reached a stage wear a moisturiser is too much
Edit:
I just remembered I can use avene as well as aveeno and that was lighter! Boots here I come!
although the jaundice has gone my skin is still recovering. my face has been very dry and my legs and ankles dry, cracked and rough, like rhino hide. I have had two facials, not MSe but treats from DD and OH and the MSe bit is a st Ives almond face scrub that cost 3.99 and is working well. I use a baby sponge in the shower and am currently using an Aveda shampoo in Rosemary and Mint as a shower gel. it is extravgant but smells delicious. As I have thePhysio working on me three days a week and she may be manipulating me at very close quarters (0often in my left armpit), I want to smell fresh and clean. My sister bought me Bio oiland whist she stayed last week massaged my legs with it twice a day. It seems to be working where e45 and regular body lotion was not.0 -

I am so glad to have an update. Seeing you about I thought I'd not ask because you'd tell us if you wanted us to know, but I have been worrying.
St Ives is too strong for me ( but I miss the smell, I used an old tube up on my feet) and weirdly bio oil seems to dry me out???? As does coconut oil. Purchases I won't me making for a while, but in the way of oils.......aveda beautifying oil is......beautiful, and they do a couple of others. Also , Neal's yard cleansing balm, ( cannot remember if it has a special name) is a nice soother of and protector against sore chapped skin, I use it in harsh weather in the morning before heading out doors. It doesn't unsettle my skin, it smells fab. I like it.
I used to be really good about daily body moisturising and have got lazy. Fir makes sore its done at the weekends but other wise I may or may not. I use cheap stuff, and loads of stuff my facial skin has rejected. Infact, one of the things I keep meaning to do is put some of the harsher anti aging creams near the hand creams so I use them up on the backs of my hands.
I am so glad your jaundice is better now. You skin will recover..
Re armpits, I cannot find a deodorant I like ATm,. They all seem to smell odd.

Nothing to worry about. My walking is speeding up and my arm has a lot more movement. I can do a lot of activities at waist height and increasingly at chest height. Using both hands I am cooking, preparing veg ( I am very slow) hanging out washing. Most of the time to a casual observer I look normal.
I am however a lot more frail outof my comfort zone. Today I went to the beach. Walking on sand dunes was a challenge and I needed assistance to walk up. I sat in a beach chair and could not get out, requiring an undignified haul out as I still have littleweight bearing in my left arm. I did however walk well on the flat in flip flops.
The beach was shrouded in thick sea mist/fog. the sun could not burn it off and the day got colder, As well as a picnic I had taken a flask of iced coffee which was not required, instead we bought hot chocolate from the beach cafe. The 9 year old with us insisted on putting on her swimsuit and going for a deep paddle. we were not so hardy and after eating lunch We went home and sat in glorius sunshine in the garden.0 -
