Looks yum yum
Watch out for flying kiwis
Kiwi is unwell today.. He declined food this morning ( rice and poached chicken) but as we speak is just trying some rice and chicken now. An under the weather kiwi is a pathetic thing indeed. He's been limp and mopey.
Ah, but he is licking his bowl clean now.0 -

Are you trying to kill me ?
I was diagnosed with Fat Persons Disease (Type 2 Diabetes) last week, and my blood sugar has just gone through the roof looking at that picture.
I'm going to have to eat a low carb Sirloin steak just to get over it 'In nature, there are neither rewards nor punishments - there are Consequences.'0 -

We have similar shaped door, but in natural wood. Windows in same place but more trim on the panels. Are you having a peep hole fitted? Very useful because the height of the windows means you can peep at whose outside without them noticing.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Hi Spirit, I'm late to this as I really needed to think about it. It's been interesting to see what others have said, but these are my suggestions.
It is now almost 8 months since my stroke. My physical rehabilitation has been very good, my goal is to get to "normal" . Cognitively I am good but not as quick at assimilating information, processing it and decision making to successfully enable a to return to my job so I am retiring(it is rumbling through the pension process currently). I am not yet able to drive but expect to do so in the next 3 months. I can walk with a good gait for about 1.5 miles. I am of a positive disposition and happy with life.
You have done great so far. It's over 10 years since I did any reading on brain plasticity, back then they seemed to be finding that the brain grows new connections much better than they'd previously thought. Suspect lots more research done on that since, so I reckon that your information processing etc will continue to improve.
Driving - I haven't driven for about 10 years now, and I would want to at least go for one drive in a dual control car with an instructor if I was taking it up again. Suggest you might think about that? As much for your own peace of mind about your driving capability as anything. I'm sure you know this already, but you will have to tell DVLA about your neuro problems. They may restrict length of your licence. I will be changing my licence as soon as I get new photo done, and will have to report that I have a neuro disease (WHO say ME is neuro, not psych as some psychiatrists in UK would say). Also I don't know what your car is, but it's possible you might find an automatic easier if you don't have one already.I am now reaching a milestone in my rehab. I have a neuro physio treating me at home 3 days a week . Sometimes we swap a home session for Hydro therapy and I have discovered I am now a non swimmer due to some deficit in my left arm but also a sinking left leg. The leg is due to poor core strength.
The Physio has said that in terms of what more I can get with her that is probably further function in my wrist and that everything else is about continuing the stretches I have, the arm exercises, core stability exercises and build my walking distance and pace.
I have limitations to my reach, lateral arm movements, fine motor skills and frequent episodes of high tone in my arm, shoulder and foot.
So do I reduce the Physio input and ;
[/LIST]go it alone -I am worried about my diligence and the quality of the moves.
swap a physio session for 2 physio assistant sessions to do the stretch and exercise programme Physio £80/hr Asst £40/hr .
Something else (ideas welcome)
I think if it was me I'd be inclined to go for 2 sessions with assistants, plus one with Physio for a few weeks and see how that went. If that went OK perhaps cut the Physio to twice a month but keep assistants if you need, and a few months later (2/3) cut Physio to once a month. That way s/he can monitor your progress better over time. I do understand what you say about your diligence and quality of moves. Much too easy to slack if you don't get feedback. But I think as time goes on and you get stronger you won't have the same danger of "slacking".There is a Clinical Pilates class at my local GP surgery. but transport is difficult as we are 3 miles away with no public transport and limited local taxi's.
Can't comment on this at all really, as I don't know much about Pilates, Clinical or not. It's not something that I would be capable of. But others here have said they find it useful. If I was fit I think I'd be looking at Pilates as I do get back pain, and my posture is totally carp.
The Physio and I both want to wean me off such frequent visits to a longer term maintenance relationship, but she has worked miracles with me in a short time and I almost cannot believe I cannot get the final deficits sorted in the next couple of months. I probably need a reality check as I am not Superwoman, I just have high expectations of myself to get things done. I have had a turbulent year, and the next one will be a change of lifestyle and I want to be a bit kinder to myself.
I don't want to put you off trying to overcome things as fast as poss, but my feeling is your final deficits will take longer than a couple of months to deal with. And I think that is prob why your Physio is suggesting weaning you off such frequent visits from her/him. Have her (his?) assistants come for some sessions. The important thing is to keep going with the exercises, assistants should be able to supervise and make sure you doing them well enough? I think it's a good sign as to how good your Physio is that they are talking to you about cutting down their sessions.
You *definitely* need to be kind to yourself! To have to retire much earlier than you planned is difficult. I just got sacked, so be grateful for some mercies!Just take some time to chill a bit, have some fun, whatever fun that you can manage. Fun is health making. :j
So NP what are your opinions , you'know me' pretty well, so financial, physical, psychological opinions are all welcome.
Since you mention psychological options, I would just say that I have found Counselling of immense value. But I did find it hard to find someone I could trust when I was first ill back in 1992. I saw a work counsellor who was worse than useless (eg I can't discuss that when I mentioned bullying at work), then NHS counsellor at GPs. Finally found someone at a so-called "stress group" (experimental back in around 1995/6-ish) at my GPs, who I saw privately much more recently when my parents died. A good counsellor can really help coming to terms with life changes in my experience.
Hugs to you from Liverpool. And I do still sit in porch and send you The Vibes!

Welcome Pollygarter. :hello: Do tell us about yourself. What are your views on mushrooms, and do you have any connections to Judaism? Have you only just stumbled on us or have you been lurking for ages?
Thanks for the welcome Lydia and all!
My views on mushrooms? Actually I have very particular views on mushrooms. It was one of my very first jobs aged 14. Mushroom picking on a Sunday. 67p an hour to crawl over massive trays of horse poop n mushrooms 4 storeys high in darkened Nissan huts.
You'd go home with an indelibly stained thumb from cutting poop into it when trimming mushrooms, poop in your hair and a faint aroma of rot. Loved it. All the ladies who had worked there for years had mushroom workers lung. Awful cough from the spores growing inside them.
And mushroom soup is made out of the gritty poopy bits we cut off the bottom of the stalk. Where it grew into the horse manure.
Didn't eat em for decades. Love them now.
I bet that was more info than you wanted!
I lurked a little and jumped in a few weeks back to underpin my commitment to changing my game from hopeless spendthrift to hope-full steward of my reduced financial resources. Expect me to fall over a few times and get back up again!
Now what were the other topics? Judaism? I'm not, half Welsh type here. Lived in a Jewish household some of my student days, and have many friends etc and aim to live like a mensch best I can.
That Flanagan and Allen song...its hilarious. Warbly old music hall song about nice people with nice habits who got no money at all, I believe they kept rabbits and borrow from each other etc. Its probably on YouTube.
Are you allowed to post links to outside websites? Or is that not nice?
