Thanks for all the ideas guys. I just made an apple crumble that would be good in there i guess. Im thinking of some little none cook things too which she can maybe do with her little daughter - almost aged 2 - so obviously decorating and eating will be more her job! Although i use to sit ben down on a wipe clean mat and give him a little bit of flour in a bowl adn he loved that. Thansk for the idea too about including pictures/scrapbooking type thing - that sounds good too.
    Time to find me again

Guys, I am so inspired. Have been struggling for ages to come up with a unique ruby wedding anniversary gift for some friends who like cooking, eating & drinking (and scrapbooking) - just done a quick google on ruby+recipe and loads of great ideas; many are cocktails like Ruby Haze, Ruby Fizz, Ruby Slipper, got sidetracked by them (hic) before the foodie ones start. So shall be creating a folder of 40 laminated recipes + scrapbooking inspiring quotes + a promise to try each recipe over the following year. I do mean to hijack this thread but thank you so much esp sammy_kaye18 for the original idea!

Paperchase do kitchen notebook recipe type things (sorry it's late can't think of the word) oooh journal, that's it! I bought one for a friends birthday.

As for classic recipes I'd say mine are gingerbread, cupcakes and lemon drizzle cake

    Gingerbread men (or shapes)

    350g (12oz) plain white flour
    1 tsp bicarbonate of soda
    2 tsp ground ginger

110g (4oz) butter or block margarine
175g (6oz) soft light brown sugar
    1 egg, beaten

    4 tbsp golden syrup
    currants, to decorate
    • Sift the flour, bicarbonate of soda and ginger into a bowl. Rub in the butter until the mixture resembles fine crumbs. Stir in the sugar and make a well in the centre.
    • In another bowl, beat the syrup and egg together.
    • Pour the syrup mixture into the well and mix to a fairly firm dough; knead until smooth.
    • Divide in half and roll out, one half at a time, on a lightly floured surface to a 5mm thickness. Using a gingerbread man cutter, cut out figures and place them on a lightly greased baking sheets.
    • Add currants to represent eyes and buttons. Bake at 190C/375F/Mark 5 for 12-15 minutes, until golden.
    • Leave on the baking sheets for 1 minute, then carefully transfer to a wire rack to cool.
    Lemon Drizzle Cake
    110g butter/margarine
    170g self raising flour
    170g caster sugar
    4tbsp milk

    Grated rind of 1 lemon

    2 eggs

    For the drizzle:

Juice of 1 lemon 3 heaped tbsp icing sugar.

    • Preheat oven to Gas 4/180c or Gas 5/190c for muffin size
    • Place all cake ingredients into a bowl or processor and mix until smooth
    • Place in tin of your choice and bake for 40-45 minutes, 15-20 for smaller size.
    • Mix syrup ingredients together, *word has been censored:rolleyes: * hot cakes with a skewer or fork and pour the syrup over. Leave in tin to cool completely.
    Cupcakes

    4oz/110g butter (softened) or margarine
    4oz/110g golden caster sugar

    2 eggs

    4oz/110g self raising flour, sifted
    • Preheat oven to Gas 5/190c
    • Cream together butter and sugar until light and well combined
    • Add the eggs and whisk until incorpotated
    • Add the sifted flour and fold/whisk in until mixture is fluffy with no lumps!!
    • Divide between 12 cupcake, 24 mini muffin or 12 muffin cases.
    • Bake for 10-20 minutes (depending on size of cakes) until a pale golden colour.
    • Ice with buttercream, frosting, sprinkles, Smarties, chocolate etc etc etc!!

the mind boggles :rotfl: Some great recipies though and some great ideas for binders! I'm going to have to go chasing for some and make one for my SIL I think :) Maybe I should make one for my mum too - she's never been much of a baking person but since I gave her my old bread maker she's kinda got in the swing of it :)

I found one in my local Pondland. I covered it in plain coloured stickyback plastic to tone in with my kitchen.
