We had the same problem, we stopped giving them softer food (like cucs and strawberries). Now they only get food if it's crunchy (apples, carrots, etc). We make sure there's plenty of hay, and their dried food is nuggets. If you give them muesli, they'll only eat their favourite bits and leave the rest, so nuggets are better (you probably knew that, but thought I'd throw it in anyway, lol).

Guinea nuggets have vitamin C, and with all the fresh fruit and veg they're getting, you won't need vitamin drops.

How much hay do you feed? Guinea Pigs need alot of fibre to keep their guts healthy.

Has anything in the gp's environment changed? My gp got this when i introduced a new guinea pig and vet advised it was probably stressed.

No, no changes. Lots of fresh hay every day. I have to say is this is the first day Martin hasnt made a mess of his cushion for a bit which he sleeps on every night. Yesterday all day i didnt give any veggies only pellets and hay, so maybe thats helped.

Will reintroduce some crunchy veg in the next few days. Neither of the girls have had this problem, just poor Martin

We've had our two female guinea pigs for a while now and the hutch they are in is getting a bit chewed up and knackered!

We bought it from an ebay seller (albanypets) who no longer trade anymore, it was a lovely hutch so its a shame they aren't around anymore.

    Anyone got any recommendations?
Has to be 2 storey with a ramp, wooden and good quality. We keep them indoors.

We did just get one from rabbit hutch warehouse but it was terrible quality and we have returned it!

    Thank you!

If you're keeping them indoors then I'd try building yourself something like the ones on https://www.guineapigcages.com .

They're much nicer than any wooden cage, easier to clean and you can go crazy with the design. You can buy the grids from B&Q or Costco. They're called Cube Storage Racks or something.
  • I would recommend building one yourselves if at all possible it would certainly work out cheaper and you could have it exactly as you want. Ebay is still pretty good for hutches and cages at the moment, ive also looked at netpetshop and zooplus but the decent cages are pretty expensive considering what they actually are.

You can get hutches very similar to those that used to be sold by albany pets at http://www.cumfypets.co.uk/rabbit-products-16-c.asp

Happy hutch are very good value for money http://www.happyhutch.co.uk/

If you want top quality you can't beat Ryedale http://www.rehutches.com/

Just bumping to say thanks for the links! Ryedale are amazing, wish they were in our budget!

I've looked at the cube system but we have cats so they aren't the most secure solution, pretty sure a cat could get in there pretty sharpish.

    Hello!

I just really want some other peoples opinions. We have a mini herd of guinea pigs and we keep them in a number of large zoozone cages over the winter and in a custom built hut over the summer. At the moment they are in their cages until we get home and then they spend the evening mingling with each other in a giant play area. However we would like to rescue more but I don't know how many we should keep in each cage. The dimensions are:

    Top - L 100 x W 51 x H 17cm
    Base - L 99 x W 51 x H 20cm

I know they are are not huge cages but each pig is out for hours every day and they are all individually handled too. So how many do you think should be in each cage?
